If there's one thing that Australians do better than most it's produce top quality sprinters.

We produced arguably the greatest of all-time in Black Caviar, but year after year we prove that the mighty mare wasn't just a flash in the pan. Sprinting races are a favourite of Australian punters so we've compiled our list of the top-five sprinters currently in training down under.

The best five sprinters in Australia

1. Nature Strip - Prior to the 2020 spring, this enigmatic gelding was the best sprinter in the world but just didn't quite come up in that campaign, however, he has taken back the mantle following feature autumn wins in the Lightning Stakes before defending his TJ Smith Stakes crown at 'The Championships'. We'll next see Nature Strip in the spring of 2021.

2. Gytrash - This tough South Australian had a big 2020 which started with a Group One win up the Flemington straight in the Lightning Stakes prior to placing in both the Newmarket and William Reid Stakes. There was only half a length between he and Bivouac in the 2020 Everest, which was the last time they met. Is the most consistent sprinter in Australia.

3. Eduardo - A still lightly raced veteran that found career best form in the autumn of 2021 where he broke the 1000m track record fresh at Randwick when upsetting Nature Strip in the Challenge Stakes before carrying top weight and bolting in with The Galaxy. Was safely held into third in TJ Smith Stakes in his latest.

4. Masked Crusader - This four-year-old is the most progressive of any galloper on this list with just 12 starts to date. He bounced back off an ordinary spring with a Group One William Reid Stakes romp before making good ground as runner-up in the TJ Smith Stakes. The return bouts in the Spring versus Nature Strip and co loom as mouth-watering clashes.

5. Behemoth - Somewhat different to the above four gallopers in that he's more proficient at 1400m, a trip which netted him two Group One wins last spring, however, Behemoth has won his last three fresh attempts, all at 1100m-1200m, albeit all of those efforts have been in Adelaide. He's the early favourite for The Goodwood in 2021 ($3.70 @ Sportsbetting).
