With the World Cup expanding to 48 teams for the first time, securing just one win in the group stage could potentially be enough to advance into the knockout phase. With both teams expected to take care of South Africa and perhaps struggle against Mexico in the other Group A fixtures, a win here for either side would be huge.
On the flip side, both sides would also know a point would be an okay result, hoping to take maximum points from Bafana Bafana later in the group. As a result, a cagey affair could play out in Zapopan and I will be betting accordingly.
South Korea always underperform on the big stage. Indeed, they've won just seven of their 38 World Cup matches - and most of them came in 2002 when they made the semi-finals as the co-hosts. Czechia meanwhile rode a bit of luck to make it into this tournament, overcoming Ireland and Denmark on penalties in the UEFA playoffs. Four of their last nine games have ended in a draw after 90 minutes, so another share of the spoils offers some value here.
I also like South Korea failing to score in the first half as a main play - incredibly, 12 of their last 13 goals at the World Cup have come in the second half. They are notoriously slow starters and I'll be backing that trend to continue.
As far as goalscorers go, both teams have world class strikers in Patrick Schick and Son Heung-min. I think Czechia have a bit more going on in the final third, so I'll back Schick to add to his 26 goals for the national team, five of which came during the recent qualifying campaign.

South Korea vs Czechia Head To Head
This will be the first competitive meeting between the two nations. The last three friendlies have seen one win apiece, along with a draw.
South Korea Form Analysis
This will be South Korea's 12 World Cup, which is a record for an Asian nation, along with their 11th consecutive appearance at the big dance.
Replicating that run off home soil has proven problematic for South Korea - they were once again bundled out in the group stage of Qatar 2022. In fact, they've won exactly one game at four of the last five World Cups.
However, the Taegeuk Warriors have only won seven games in those 12 appearances, with the bulk coming during their magical run to fourth place at the 2022 edition, in which they were co-hosts alongside Japan.

Hong Myung-bo's side were the only unbeaten team throughout the Asian qualifying campaign, winning 11 of their 16 games and scoring 40 goals in the process.
South Korea's form has been indifferent in 2026 - they've lost two fellow World Cup participants Austria and Ivory Coast and beaten minnow nations Trinidad & Tobago and El Salvador.
South Korea Team News
Captain Son Heung-min will start up front after registering 14 goal involvements during qualifying - he's just two strikes off equalling the record for most all-time goals for South Korea.
Hwang Hee-chan, Lee Jae-sung and PSG forward Lee Kang-in will all be in the mix to support Son in the final third, while Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae leads a back three. Cho Yu-min has been ruled out with a foot injury.

Czechia Form Analysis
Competing at a World Cup for just the second time as an independent nation, Czechia will be appearing on the big stage for the first time in 20 years after they crashed out in the group stage of Germany 2006.
Two-time runners-up when competing as Czechoslovakia in 1934 and 1962, it was a dramatic qualifying campaign as the nation look to get back to their glory days.
Czechia were down 2-0 against Ireland before recovering and sneaking through on penalties, setting up a winner-takes-all showdown with Denmark, which they again prevailed via spot kicks.
Miroslav Koubek's side then warmed up for the World Cup with friendly wins over Kosovo and Guatemala.
Czechia Team News
Schick is the main man for Czechia, with the Bayer Leverkusen striker scoring 26 goals from 52 appearances for his nation.
Czechia Squad
Pavel Sulc will pull the strings and act as the creative spark, while the experienced Tomas Soucek remains in the squad despite being stripped of the captaincy earlier this year.
Penalty shootout hero Matej Kovar should keep his spot in goals.

A draw provides value in the H2H market, while South Korea usually fail to strike in the opening half of World Cup games. Schick is the most likely to find the back of the net.
