The Memsie Stakes is the first Group 1 race of the Melbourne racing season, with the 1400m weight-for-age feature to be run at Caulfield on Saturday, August 29.
With Sheza Alibi having instead resumed in the Winx Stakes at Randwick, the market has opened up considerably, with Cosmic Crusader and Jimmysstar now sharing favouritism at $4 with Unibet Australia.
Cosmic Crusader has made a perfect start to his Melbourne campaign, following his Bletchingly Stakes victory with another impressive success in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes over the Caulfield 1400m on August 15.
The Andrea Leek-trained galloper has won both starts since arriving from Western Australia and now steps up to Group 1 weight-for-age company in peak form.
Jimmysstar shares the top line of betting as he prepares to resume in the Memsie Stakes.
The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding is a three-time Group 1 winner and remained highly competitive at the top level last campaign, while Ethan Brown is booked to ride him in Saturday's Caulfield feature.
Angel Capital is next at $5 and has the benefit of race fitness after resuming with a third behind Ninja in the Missile Stakes at Randwick on August 8.
The Chris Waller-trained entire was slow away and struck trouble in running before working home strongly, with the Memsie Stakes having long been identified as a likely second-up target.
Beiwacht is quoted at $7 after being scratched from the Winx Stakes on race morning with a minor temperature.
Chris Waller indicated the dual Group 1 winner would be monitored before a decision was made on the Memsie Stakes, with Beiwacht included among the nominations and Nash Rawiller currently listed to ride.
Mr Brightside and defending champion Treasurethe Moment share the next line of betting at $11.
Mr Brightside is set to resume in the race and heads into another spring campaign as a 10-time Group 1 winner, with Lindsay Park reporting he is particularly forward for his return.
Treasurethe Moment also returns to the scene of her first-up Memsie Stakes victory last year, with the mare having pleased connections in her recent Caulfield Heath trial as she prepares to defend her title.
The depth extends well beyond the leading chances, with Autumn Boy ($21), Birdman ($26), Buckaroo ($26) and several other established performers among the nominations for what shapes as one of the strongest editions of the Memsie Stakes in recent years.

Memsie Stakes Winners
The Memsie Stakes is run over 1400m under weight-for-age conditions at Caulfield and was first contested in 1899.
The race was elevated to Group 1 status in 2013 and has been won by some of Australian racing’s most accomplished performers, including Sunline, Makybe Diva, So You Think and Atlantic Jewel.
Behemoth became the most recent dual winner when successful in 2020 and 2021, while Mr Brightside claimed the 2023 edition.
The most recent winners are Pinstriped in 2024 and Treasurethe Moment, who resumed with victory in the 2025 Memsie Stakes.
