Rosehill Guineas History

The Rosehill Guineas is one of the classic three-year-old Australian races.

First run in 1910, the Rosehill Guineas has an incredible honour roll of horses including Amounis, Phar Lap, Ajax, Tulloch, Dulcify, Octagonal and Tie The Knot .

The race started off as a 1400 metre event, but over time the distance was moved to 1800m in 1915 and finally to the current distance of 2000m back in 1948.

Gaining Group One statis in 1980 the Rosehill Guineas is the second leg of the Sydney autumn’s Triple Crown for three-year-olds, coming between the Randwick Guineas and the Australian Derby.

Five horses have completed the Triple Crown: Moorland (1943), Martello Towers (1959), Imagele (1973), Octagonal (1996) and It’s a Dundeel (2013).

Rosehill Guineas Form Guide

As the second leg of the Sydney Autumn Triple Crown, the Rosehill Guineas is one of the obvious lead in races towards the Randwick Guineas.

Those coming from Melbourne may come out of the Group One Australian Guineas at Flemington and its associated lead-up races. The Australian Guineas routinely clashes with the Randwick one, meaning Victorian connections will run in Melbourne before making the trip up to Sydney.

Winning form is also good form heading into the Rosehill Guineas. Between 2009 and 2019, half the winners took out the Rosehill Guineas after winning their previous start.
