The VRC Oaks was first run in 1861 when Palestine was victorious. It has since been won by many of Australia’s most promising fillies including Jameka, Mosheen, Miss Finland and Samantha Miss – all of which have gone on to claim G1 features form then on.
Worth $1 million, the VRC Oaks headlines the Ladies Day, the third day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
It was given Group 1 status in 1979 and the current sponsorship is provided by Kennedy, so the race is currently called the Crown Oaks, but the fans know this race as the VRC Oaks.
