VRC Oaks 2023 Form Guide
The VRC Oaks has long been a tough race for the punters.
There is often a short-priced filly which has been winning the lead-up races, but none of those came over 2500m and that’s the big factor when winning the Oaks.
Many high-class middle-distance fillies have come unstuck in the VRC Oaks and there have been some big upsets. Lasqueti Spirit won in 2016 at huge odds, toppling Yankee Rose, who went on to claim other big events.
The Oaks is suited towards the tough fillies as opposed to the talented females. Look for the horses which will be able to grind away over the 2500m. The additional distance has undone some great female gallopers and will do so in the future.

VRC Oaks History
The VRC Oaks was first run in 1861 when Palestine was victorious. It has since been won by many of Australia’s most promising fillies including Jameka, Mosheen, Miss Finland and Samantha Miss – all of which have gone on to claim G1 features form then on.
Worth $1 million, the VRC Oaks headlines the Ladies Day, the third day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
It was given Group 1 status in 1979 and the current sponsorship is provided by Kennedy, so the race is currently called the Kennedy Oaks, but the fans know this race as ‘The Oaks’.
