The 2025 VRC Oaks headlines Thursday’s Flemington card, with a talented group of three-year-old fillies stepping to 2500m in one of the spring’s most time-honoured classics.

Getta Good Feeling heads the market at $1.80 with EliteBet as she looks to complete the Wakeful Stakes–Oaks double, a path that has proven a reliable pointer over the years.

It shapes as another fascinating edition of the staying feature, with runners from the Edward Manifold Stakes, Wakeful Stakes, and even the Sydney Spring Champion form lines converging.

The traditional form line through the Wakeful Stakes appears the strongest. Getta Good Feeling was a soft winner of that, and two starts back, she should’ve put a bigger margin on Just A Journey in the Edward Manifold Stakes.

Still respecting the Caulfield reference, where Spicy Lu and Just A Journey held off both After Summer and Classic Gem in the Ethereal Stakes. That group cleared right out from the rest of their rivals over 2000m, and all four put in decent VRC Oaks trials in the process.

Of the beaten brigade in the Wakeful Stakes, Strictly Business was the only one making any impression late behind Getta Good Feeling. Perhaps flattered given she was saved up and got the inside run, but she was 1400m to 2000m there and only second-up off a good return win. Wary if there’s a spike off that.

Ethereum Girl is still waiting to get out, having been held up in the Wakeful Stakes, and she had some excuses prior to that Thousand Guineas. Her resumption in the Thousand Guineas Prelude has her in the mix, but Getta Good Feeling has beaten her comfortably in their last two clashes.

Sydney form often stacks up in the VRC Oaks, and the Chris Waller-trained The Pearls comes out of a third in the Spring Champion Stakes. Only whacked away there, but the winner Attica is smart, and that reads well coming back to fillies’ company.

2025 VRC Oaks Best Bet - Getta Good Feeling

The VRC Oaks has traditionally been a race for favourites, and recent history doesn’t stray from that trend, with the last four market elects all proving successful in their respective editions. It’s often a test of timing, patience, and class, and Getta Good Feeling has furnished beautifully as her second campaign has worn on.

Her breakthrough came at Group 2 level when taking out the Edward Manifold Stakes, where she overcame interference yet still produced a strong finish to score. That run confirmed her staying credentials and highlighted the improvement she’d made since her winter preparation.

Prior to her Wakeful Stakes success, she ran third in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas, again closing off strongly in a fast-run contest against older fillies. Her subsequent victory at Flemington was authoritative and confirmed her as the one to beat heading into Thursday’s classic.

With fitness, form, and proven track experience on her side, Getta Good Feeling looks a deserving favourite to add her name to the VRC Oaks honour roll.

2025 VRC Oaks Value Bet - Classic Gem

Despite her dam’s side showing a strong sprinting pedigree, which includes five-time Group 1 winner Lankan Rupee as a close relation, Classic Gem gives every indication that further ground will suit. The influence of her sire Maurice is clear, a versatile stallion who has produced Derby winners.

It’s seemingly been a spaced-out campaign on purpose, with her runs placed to allow gradual improvement and progression toward this 2500m assignment. Her effort at Caulfield behind Spicy Lu and Just A Journey suggested the longer trip and big track will bring out her best.

She profiles like a filly who will stay the trip and appreciate building through her gears on a spacious Flemington.

At a generous quote, Classic Gem could finish in the money without surprising.
