The Verry Elleegant Stakes (formely Chipping Norton Stakes) dates back to 1925 and received Group One status from 1986 and in 1980, the distance was dropped back to 1600 meters.
In what is generally a major and initial lead-up for the Sydney Autumn Carnival, the race has been hosted between Warwick Farm and Royal Randwick but as of 2016, moved to Royal Randwick permanently.
Champions to have won the Verry Elleegant Stakes include Phar Lap, Bernborough, Tulloch, Super Impose and in 2019, Winx equaled Tie The Knot's record of four consecutive Verry Elleegant Stakes victories.
Having won the race in 2022 and 2023, the race was named after the champion in 2023.
