In what is generally a major and initial lead-up for the Sydney Autumn Carnival, the race has been hosted between Warwick Farm and Royal Randwick but as of 2016, moved to Royal Randwick permanently.
Champions to have won the Verry Elleegant Stakes include Phar Lap, Bernborough, Tulloch, Super Impose and in 2019, Winx equaled Tie The Knot's record of four consecutive Verry Elleegant Stakes victories.
