Golden Rose Stakes History

The Golden Rose has had an interesting build up to the $1 million Group One feature it is today.

First being run and won in 1978, the race was originally known as the Peter Pan Stakes after the dual Melbourne Cup winner, but was renamed the Golden Rose after its grading was dropped from Group Two to and unlisted race, despite a prize money increase to $1 million.

The race was upgraded to a Group One event in 2009 which has seen a number of top quality gallopers take out the race including The Autumn Sun, Trapeze Artist and Exosphere.
