The 2026 Golden Rose shapes as a high-quality Group 1 for three-year-olds over 1400m at Rosehill on Saturday, with several key spring form lines converging.
First run in 1978 and elevated to Group 1 status in 2009, the Golden Rose has developed into a major stallion-making race, with winners such as Zoustar, Bivouac, Trapeze Artist and The Autumn Sun going on to successful careers at stud.

2026 Golden Rose Best Bet - Guest House
Mick Price has trained some very good colts, so while there may have been a touch of salesmanship for the stallion resume in declaring Guest House the best he has prepared, the son of Home Affairs has already proven himself the class horse of his crop.
It looked as though the penny really dropped in the Golden Slipper before a spell, and he resumed in the San Domenico Stakes on August 29 with an excellent performance, breaking the Rosehill 1100m track record while giving 3.5kg to his main rival.
Interestingly, he now follows a similar path to the one that led into his Golden Slipper success, with four weeks between runs, and while 1400m is the obvious query, it is hard to knock him on something he has not yet attempted.
We have seen this race won plenty of times by horses who were probably more naturally suited over shorter trips, with the likes of Bivouac, Astern, Exosphere, Zoustar, Epaulette and Duporth simply proving too good for their early three-year-old rivals at 1400m.
Guest House is unbeaten in Sydney, both wins have come at Rosehill, and barrier five gives Zac Lloyd plenty of options early after we saw him take a position and box-seat in the San Domenico, making him the deserving favourite and the obvious starting point.
2026 Golden Rose Value Bet - Tron Bolt
Chris Waller has repeatedly brought his better three-year-old middle-distance types through the Queensland winter as late two-year-olds, with that path evident in several of his Caulfield Guineas winners, including Press Statement, The Autumn Sun and Autumn Boy.
The peak run for Tron Bolt may ultimately come third-up over a mile in Melbourne, and he could even prove more effective over 2000m in time, but unless Rosehill strongly favours those on speed, his class should still take him a long way here.
He was clearly there to get back, blow the cobwebs out and work through the line when resuming over 1200m in the Run To The Rose, a trip well short of his best, and while he never threatened, it was hard to miss the way he finished off.
The son of Toronado recorded the fastest last 400m and last 200m of the entire program, and from the wide draw he is likely to be allowed to find his feet early before trying to build into the race late.
We saw his class in his first preparation as he kept improving throughout a campaign that culminated in a Group 1 J.J. Atkins victory, and at a double-figure quote he has to be included as the value runner.
