The Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) has developed into one of the defining three-year-old races of the Sydney spring, regularly bringing together the season's leading young sprinters and milers before they progress towards major races in Sydney and Melbourne.

After The Golden Rose

Its recent honour roll reflects that standing, with Beiwacht winning in 2025 after Broadsiding claimed the previous edition, while Militarize, Jacquinot and In The Congo completed an impressive sequence of winners between 2021 and 2023. The wider list includes horses such as Bivouac, The Autumn Sun, Zoustar and Exosphere.

The 2026 edition again brings together a strong collection of emerging three-year-olds, with Guest House, St Gotthard, Tron Bolt and Warwoven among the 13 runners set to tackle the Rosehill 1400m.

After The Golden Rose

The Golden Rose has established itself as one of the major three-year-old races of the Australian spring, providing an important 1400m test before many runners progress towards further Group 1 targets.

The race has been known as the Golden Rose since 2003 after previously being run as the Peter Pan Stakes, first contested in 1978. It was elevated to Group 1 level in 2009, when Denman became the first winner under its current status.

Its recent editions have continued to produce high-class three-year-olds, with Beiwacht defeating Wodeton and Tempted in 2025 after Broadsiding beat Traffic Warden and Mayfair the previous year.

Militarize defeated Encap and Cylinder in 2023, while Jacquinot prevailed over In Secret and Zou Tiger in 2022. In The Congo won the 2021 edition from Anamoe and Coastwatch, with Anamoe later establishing himself among Australia's leading weight-for-age performers.

The Golden Rose's wider history includes winners such as Bivouac, The Autumn Sun, Exosphere, Zoustar, Epaulette, Denman and Forensics, while Kingston Town won the race in 1979 when it was still known as the Peter Pan Stakes.

The race has also developed a strong reputation as a stallion-making contest, with winners including Flying Spur, Zoustar, The Autumn Sun and Bivouac going on to become prominent names at stud, adding another layer to its importance on the spring calendar.

Saturday's edition gives another group of emerging three-year-olds the chance to join that honour roll, with Guest House, St Gotthard, Tron Bolt and Warwoven among the leading contenders in the 13-horse field.
