Saturday Track Reports November 7 - Five Metro Meetings
Flemington's Champions Day on Saturday 7 November is set to begin on a Good 4 track, but significant rain and strong south-westerly winds are forecast, with up to 11mm expected before racing. Track manager Liam O’Keeffe anticipates the surface could shift to soft or heavy, especially with most rain likely in the morning. Straight-course runners may favour the middle to outside, while circle-course races could start on the inside before moving wider. Conditions are expected to change, so monitoring official updates is advised.

Official track manager update
“It's been a big week. Day five for us tomorrow, so it's been a big effort from the team to get the track up for each and every race day, but we're looking forward to finishing off in style on Champions Day.”
“The surface is a Good 4 on Friday morning. It was upgraded from a Soft 5 to a Good 4 yesterday for Oaks Day, so it was good to get that upgrade.”
“It had a nice little bit of cut in the ground throughout the day yesterday. The sun came out, the track dried out a little bit, which was good, and leaves us on a good track today, but there is rain forecast for tomorrow morning, around 10 or 11mm, with most of that expected to fall prior to racing.”
“Hopefully that can blow through, and we'll be on a nice soft or heavy track to kick off.”
“It's tipped to ease off during the afternoon, so hopefully most of the rain arrives earlier in the day and it shouldn't be too bad for racing.”
“It's going to be quite cold with a strong south-westerly wind during the day. Certainly rug up, bring a jacket and stay nice and warm, but hopefully with no rain it shouldn't be too bad during the afternoon.”
“I think the straight will be similar to yesterday, using that middle to outside part of the course. There were a couple of close finishes in the straight-course racing yesterday, so hopefully we see more of the same tomorrow.”
“For the circle course, we've moved the rail out to the 9m position. That covers all the wear and tear from yesterday's racing around the home bend, with some consistent marking across the straight.”
“It's pretty similar to last year, and going into Champions Day, the weather forecast looks similar again.”
“I'd expect the circle-course racing to start on the inside before edging off on the rain-affected ground, while the straight-course racing should use that middle to outside part of the course, similar to last year.”
“Full credit to the team. They've worked very hard in wet conditions on a lot of the days, with most of the racing taking place on rain-affected ground.”
“For the track to have pulled up as well as it has and raced well at the next meeting, it's been a credit to the team.”
— Liam O’Keefe, Flemington Track Manager, via Victoria Racing Club release, Friday 12:40pm.

“The Parks track presents in very good order coming off a 7 week break. Track currently walks in the Good 4 range with irrigation being applied at the time of walking. The track walks consistent, with an excellent cover of grass on it across the entire circumference. Weather forecast looks favourable through to Saturday with only a minor chance of a shower on Friday, paving the way for a good day Saturday.”

Official track manager update
“Currently, our track is rated a Soft 6 this morning. Yesterday, after 38.8mm of rainfall, it pushed us into the Soft 7, but pleasantly, this morning as we went around, we went back to a Soft 6.”
“So for this Saturday, we've got our rail in the true position. Last time we raced on the 10th and the 14th of October, we've done a little bit of a light renovation, doing some VertiDrain work to the track, which is going to continue to make it race very fairly.”
“Looking at the weather today, we're looking at 25 degrees and sunny weather. The winds are up around 20km/h today.”
“Tomorrow, the winds are dropping down, mostly sunny and 26 degrees. On race day, we've got a nice start to the day, 30 degrees, and there's a chance of some light rainfall in the afternoon.”
“With the weather we've got today, we'll give it a nice little trim, and then we'll look at putting a pattern in it tomorrow.”
“I think we'll get some improvement in the soft range, and we're looking at a nice track on Saturday.”
— David Morrison, Rosehill Gardens Racecourse Manager, via Australian Turf Club release, Thursday 10:30am.
