Melbourne City vs Western Sydney Wanderers A-League Round 4 Tips & Prediction

Both teams are tipped to score and a share of the spoils offers value as Melbourne City welcome Western Sydney Wanderers to AAMI Park for A-League Round 4 action on Saturday night.

The Wanderers remain unbeaten across the opening three rounds and are proving tough to break down, while City got off the mark with a confidence-boosting come-from-behind win over Sydney last week.

These teams have drawn the majority of their recent meetings, while Wanderers attacking duo Miguel Di Pizio and Liam Gillion have been lively in every game this term - the pair are also backed in shot props here.

Bet
Odds
Reasoning
BTTS - Yes$1.60 @ DabbleBTTS has landed in all three of City's games this A-League season, while the Wanderers saw a whopping seven goals vs Auckland either side of two stalemates
Draw$3.50 @ PicklebetThese teams have drawn three of their last four meetings, while the Wanderers have shared the spoils in two of their three A-League outings this term
Liam Gillion 1+ Shots On Target$2.10 @ UnibetGillion has registered 1+ shots on target in all three games this season, including working the keeper in the opening minute vs Macarthur last week
Miguel Di Pizio 2+ Shots On Target$10 @ bet365Di Pizio has racked up 10 total shots this season, including 3+ in all three games. Encouraging volume. The winger also hit the post vs Macarthur last week. Di Pizio hit the target once each vs Sydney & Auckland - the $10 on offer for two looks overpriced here

Melbourne City vs WS Wanderers Head To Head

City hold a narrow 16-14 advantage in the overall H2H, alongside 10 draws.

Melbourne City Form Analysis

Up and down start to the season for City, who have picked up four points from three games.

It was a disappointing opening performance across the Tasman against reigning premiers Auckland as the team slumped to a 3-1 defeat.

City were then held to a 1-1 draw by struggling rivals Victory in the Melbourne derby before recording their first win of the season last week, recovering from a one-goal deficit to roll over Sydney FC 2-1.

WS Wanderers Form Analysis

After picking up the wooden spoon last term, it's been an encouraging start to the season for the Wanderers.

Ufuk Talay's side have gone unbeaten across their opening three games, drawing 0-0 with Sydney and Macarthur either side of a thumping 5-2 victory at home over Auckland.

The Wanderers were unlucky not to come away with all three points last week, with German Ferreyra’s first-half goal controversially ruled out for offside after a lengthy VAR check.

Melbourne City vs WS Wanderers Team News

New recruits Awer Mabil and Emiliano Marcondes got on the scoresheet in last week's win over Sydney, with Marcondes also assisting for Mabil's strike. The pair played together at FC Midtjylland in 2019/20 and that bond is already paying dividends for City.

Andrew Nabbout continues to keep young striker Max Caputo out of the starting side. Marcondes will come into the starting team eventually, but might come off the bench again here as he continues to work up his match fitness.

Melbourne City Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): James Nieuwenhuizen, Nathaniel Atkinson, Julio Cascante, Harrison Delbridge, Aziz Behich, Besian Kutleshi, Kavian Rahmani, Medin Memeti, Quinn Macnicol, Awer Mabil, Andrew Nabbout

Dylan Scicluna continues to impress and will be a key figure again in the centre of midfield, while Nicolas Milanovic, Miguel Di Pizio, Liam Gillion and Brandon Borrello have a lot of potential to form some lethal combinations in the final third.

Western Sydney Wanderers Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Lawrence Thomas, Panashe Madanha, Germán Ferreyra, Nathan Barrie, Jarrod Carluccio, Dylan Scicluna, Angus Thurgate, Nicolas Milanović, Miguel Di Pizio, Liam Gillion, Brandon Borrello

Verdict

Both teams are tipped to find the back of the net, while a fourth draw in five meetings also offers value.
