A-League Teams
Following an expansion of the league, 12 teams compete in the A-league, 10 from Australia and two based in New Zealand.
Auckland FC featured in the A-League for the first time in 2024/25, taking out the minor premiership before going down to Melbourne Victory in the semi-finals.
Western United competed in the A-League between 2018-2025 before their license was suspended due to financial troubles.

A-League History
The A-League was first established in 2004 as a replacement for the National Soccer League with competition commencing in August 2005.
Sydney FC are the most successful side having won the Grand Final a record five times. Melbourne Victory have four titles to their name.
The Central Coast Mariners were the dominant team over the last two seasons, winning back-to-back Grand Finals in 2022-23 and 2023-24 to take their tally to three.
However, the Mariners dropped off the pace last season, finishing outside the top six. The Grand Final was a Melbourne derby, with City beating Victory 1-0 in the final.
The regular season runs throughout the Australian summer and concludes in the autumn. Teams play 27 games in the season with the top six in the table progressing to the finals. The winner of the Grand Final is crowned the champions.
