Gawler Tips November 5
LJ Hooker Property Specialists | Gawler & Barossa Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)
Gawler Best Bet - Race 1 No. 4 Nunya
A consistent record of three second-place finishes from four career starts makes Nunya the obvious starting point in Thursday's opener, with the New Zealand-bred gelding knocking on the door of a maiden victory.
Both appearances this preparation have resulted in runner-up finishes, including his latest effort at Murray Bridge last week, where he stepped up to 1800m for the first time and adopted front-running tactics from barrier eight.
The four-year-old was beaten by less than two lengths on a Soft surface that day, while a return to firmer conditions should pose no problems given his two previous second-place finishes came on Good ground.
An advantageous draw should allow Jackson Murphy to take up his preferred position near the lead, with the son of Jon Snow appearing the only confirmed front-runner in a race that lacks obvious early speed.
The drop back in distance holds no concerns given his previous form over shorter trips, and with a favourable race shape expected, Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor's representative looks well placed to break through.

Gawler Value Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Sir Castleton
A return to Gawler could bring about an improved performance from Sir Castleton, who recorded his maiden victory over 1500m at this venue in April and resumes in a suitable Class 1 assignment.
The four-year-old subsequently struggled in metropolitan company at big odds before ending his previous preparation with a fourth-place finish over 1400m at Mildura in May, where he was beaten by more than five lengths.
That margin did not tell the full story, however, with the gelding forced to cover ground from a wide barrier in a 14-runner Benchmark 56 handicap, while the winner subsequently franked the form with victory at Flemington.
Although returning from a lengthy spell, Sir Castleton has completed two recent trials at Murray Bridge and should have derived a fitness benefit from those outings ahead of Thursday's return.
Jacob Opperman has enjoyed a strong record from limited rides at Gawler this year, and with an inside barrier providing the opportunity for an economical run, his only mount on the program looks capable of producing a winning return at attractive odds.

Gawler Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Whoops A Daisy
A narrow second over the Gawler track and distance three starts ago suggested Whoops A Daisy was approaching another victory, with the five-year-old subsequently proving competitive against stronger opposition.
The daughter of Calyx was beaten by just over half a length in a similar Rating 0-56 handicap on that occasion, before stepping into higher-grade contests for her next two appearances.
Both subsequent performances had merit at double-figure odds, including her latest sixth-place finish over 1200m in a metropolitan Benchmark 0-64 handicap, where she was not disgraced against more accomplished opposition.
The return to a shorter distance looks suitable, while an inside draw should allow Rochelle Milnes to settle the mare just behind the early speed and secure a favourable run throughout.
Kristi Evans' representative also benefits from the drop back to Rating 0-56 company, and although softer ground would be preferred, she has twice finished second on Good surfaces and looks capable of recording her third career victory.
Gawler Roughie - Race 6 No. 3 Callistemon
Recent performances suggest Callistemon is not far from returning to winning form, with the six-year-old mare producing several encouraging efforts in defeat and arriving following a narrow third at Swan Hill.
The daughter of her sire was beaten by just over half a length over 1600m in a Good-ground Benchmark 62 handicap on that occasion, having previously struggled at Morphettville when a wide barrier worked against her.
There has already been some encouragement from that Swan Hill form, with the fourth-place finisher subsequently winning the Wycheproof Cup at the weekend, suggesting the performance was stronger than the bare result indicated.
The drop in grade is another positive for the Cindy Brander-trained mare, who raced prominently in a contest lacking genuine early speed last start but has demonstrated the tactical versatility to settle in different positions.
Stacey Metcalfe reunites with Callistemon after partnering her in three of her past four appearances, and with recent form suggesting she remains competitive at this level, the pair look capable of springing a surprise at generous odds.
