Flemington Racecourse Tips & Betting Advice

Few racecourses are as deeply woven into Australian sporting history as Flemington, the home of the Melbourne Cup and a venue synonymous with elite thoroughbred racing for more than 160 years.

The famous Melbourne Cup Carnival remains the centrepiece of the calendar, with Victoria Derby Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Crown Oaks Day and Champions Stakes Day forming four of the biggest racedays of the Australian spring. The 2026 Melbourne Cup will be staged on Tuesday, November 3.

The 2026/27 season is particularly significant because Flemington will also host the Cox Plate for the first time on Saturday, October 24, with The Valley unavailable during its redevelopment. The Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup joins the Cox Plate on a standalone program one week before the Melbourne Cup Carnival begins.

Feature racing continues throughout summer and autumn with the Black Caviar Lightning, Australian Guineas, Newmarket Handicap, All-Star Mile and Australian Cup, before Flemington's extensive winter program carries racing through to the end of the season. The Victoria Racing Club stages 21 regular Flemington racedays each season, with the transferred Cox Plate creating an additional meeting in 2026/27.
