Sandown contains two courses, the Lakeside and the Hillside. Lakeside is essentially a chute that runs through the middle of the course that can often favour leader while the Hillside track has a much longer straight which gives backmarkers more ground to make their run.

Hillside is the track that goes all othe way around the course and eliminates a chute that is cut through the middle of the track, whereas that surface through the middle of the track is the Lakeside. The right hand side of the course is used across both tracks.
