Sandown Races - Betting Tips & Previews

Two distinct circuits give Sandown an important role in Melbourne racing, with the Hillside and Lakeside tracks allowing the venue to accommodate a substantial metropolitan program throughout the season.

That workload increases during 2026/27, with Sandown allocated 28 MRC meetings as other metropolitan venues undergo major changes. The Hillside circuit also picks up one of The Valley's biggest races, hosting the Group 1 Moir Stakes on September 5.

Group 1 racing returns again later in spring when the C.F. Orr Stakes is staged on the Hillside course on November 14, before the Spring Finale follows two weeks later. Sandown then carries a particularly busy summer program while Caulfield undergoes its post-Caulfield Cup resurfacing.

The two courses are clearly distinguished throughout the calendar, with meetings switching between Sandown Hillside and Sandown Lakeside according to the racing program. Both are turf tracks, but their differing layouts and configurations can produce noticeably different racing characteristics.
