Moir Stakes Day 2026 at Sandown Hillside saw a dramatic and historic Group 1 breakthrough for My Gladiola, who powered home late to win the Moir Stakes, overtaking Cavalry Girl and edging out Natural Fling. Moir Stakes Day 2026 at Sandown Hillside delivered a thrilling afternoon of spring racing, headlined by a breakthrough Group 1 victory in the feature sprint.
My Gladiola produced a brilliant late surge to claim the Group 1 Moir Stakes, running down Cavalry Girl to secure her first win at the highest level, with Natural Fling finishing third. The victory was a major moment for trainer John McArdle and jockey Jamie Mott as the mare added an elusive Group 1 to her record.
Across the rest of the card, Pretty Baby emerged as another horse to follow with an impressive victory in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes, while a strong program offered an early look at a number of contenders heading deeper into the Melbourne spring.
The meeting was brought to an early end after a severe storm hit Sandown late in the afternoon, with lightning and torrential rain forcing the final two races to be postponed. The Group 3 Chautauqua Stakes and the Benchmark 84 were transferred to Wednesday’s Sandown Hillside meeting.
