A completely different chapter is unfolding at Moonee Valley during 2026/27, with The Valley closed for the entire racing season as the historic venue undergoes its major redevelopment.
The project will deliver a substantially reconfigured racecourse and new grandstand, with the new track widened and the home straight extended as part of the transformation. Racing Victoria confirms that all 23 MVRC meetings have been transferred elsewhere for 2026/27.
That means some of Australian racing's most recognisable Moonee Valley features have temporary homes. The Moir Stakes moves to Sandown, the Manikato Stakes to Caulfield, the Cox Plate to Flemington and the William Reid Stakes to Caulfield, while other MVRC fixtures are distributed across Cranbourne, Pakenham, Geelong and Sandown.
The most significant move is the Cox Plate to Flemington on Saturday, October 24, 2026, where the Moonee Valley Gold Cup will also be staged. The Manikato Stakes and Feehan Stakes are together at Caulfield on September 27, while the Moir Stakes opens the club's Group 1 program at Sandown on September 5.
