The midweek card features several lightly raced prospects alongside established Hong Kong performers, with barrier draws and recent trial form providing important considerations.

Happy Valley Tips November 4

East Point Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Happy Valley Roughie - Race 4 No. 3 Best World

David Hayes and Brenton Avdulla have combined for eight winners over the past 12 months, including three from 15 engagements this season, and the pair could add to that tally with Best World at double-figure odds.

Safely held when resuming over 1600m at Sha Tin on October 11, the son of Toronado was far from disgraced in his three-and-a-half-length defeat, with that race already producing two subsequent winners and blinkers now applied for his fifth career start.

His preparation also included encouraging trial work at Sha Tin, particularly the final two hit-outs in September and October, where he continued strongly through the line on both occasions.

There was merit in his first three career appearances, which produced two fifth-place finishes and a seventh of 14 at Sha Tin, with those races subsequently producing a combined ten winners.

This Happy Valley assignment appears to lack the depth of his previous contests, and with several ratings suggesting he can measure up at this level, Best World looks an interesting roughie with further improvement expected.

The Ant Digital Technologies Cup Tips (Race 5)

Happy Valley Favourite - Race 5 No. 8 Packing Smart

A full brother to Group 2 Wellington Guineas winner Vegas Queen, Packing Smart also comes from the family of Australian champion Winx, with his grandam Operavega being a half-sister to Vegas Showgirl, the dam of the legendary mare.

Strong early market support has seen the debutant shorten into odds-on favouritism, with his impressive trial performances suggesting he possesses plenty of natural ability.

Although Happy Valley can present challenges for first starters, the gelding showed his suitability for the circuit when winning a trial here on October 9, while his subsequent second on the Sha Tin all-weather surface was equally encouraging.

That latest hit-out saw him finish strongly without being fully extended, and Zac Purton, who partnered him in both recent trials, retains the ride for his first race appearance.

Barrier two should allow Purton to secure an economical run, and while his debut brings an element of uncertainty, Packing Smart has shown enough to justify his prominent position in the market.

Jaffe Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 7 No. 10 Money Games

An interrupted passage cost Money Games the chance to finish considerably closer on his Hong Kong debut at Sha Tin on September 13, having been taken back from a wide barrier before encountering significant interference when attempting to improve along the inside.

The son of Casino Prince was held up at crucial stages and never enjoyed a clear passage, with the race subsequently producing two winners, while his following effort over 1400m on October 1 was a little disappointing without being entirely without merit.

Unbeaten in two Australian appearances before joining Mark Newnham, the lightly raced gelding remains open to improvement, and his narrow trial defeat at Happy Valley on October 9 provided further encouragement despite looking somewhat workmanlike.

Of particular interest was the quality of the opposition in that hit-out, with Money Games continuing strongly through the line behind Light Years Charm, a multiple stakes winner who subsequently claimed a Group 2 ten days later.

The rise in distance looks suitable and this Class 3 appears less demanding than some of his previous assignments, while a lighter weight and barrier six give Derek Leung options aboard a runner capable of improving sharply at attractive odds.

Causeway Bay Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Four Stars Align

Two encouraging performances since arriving in Hong Kong suggest Four Stars Align has settled in well for Tony Cruz, with the gelding showing enough to indicate a breakthrough victory may not be far away.

His local debut came on the Sha Tin all-weather surface on September 27, where he finished behind a dominant Bustling City after covering ground throughout and sticking on reasonably well despite the difficult passage.

That form received a significant boost when Bustling City won again at Sha Tin last week, while an improved third at Happy Valley on October 14 saw Four Stars Align perform admirably after becoming involved in a sustained battle for the lead.

Both rivals who pressured him weakened noticeably, but the gelding continued on for a placing in a race dominated by runners coming from off the speed, including winner Ace Champion, making his performance better than the bare result.

With two strongly run races now behind him, Four Stars Align should strip fitter, and barrier two gives Angus Chung the opportunity to secure a more comfortable passage near the speed aboard a runner who can be supported on an each-way basis.

Causeway Bay Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 9 No. 1 Ace Champion

A hat-trick beckons for Ace Champion following two impressive victories this preparation, with the progressive four-year-old looking well placed to continue his winning sequence despite rising to 60kg in Class 3 company.

The gelding defeated the talented Tycoon Resources when resuming before producing an even stronger performance at Happy Valley on October 14, overcoming a difficult run to record a convincing second-up victory.

Unable to establish any early rhythm after settling well back from a wide barrier, he unleashed a powerful finishing burst to sweep past his rivals with considerable authority and appeared to have plenty in reserve.

While ridden conservatively in both recent wins, Ace Champion has demonstrated tactical speed in previous appearances and trials, giving Vincent Ho the option to settle closer from barrier five this evening.

The additional weight is the obvious challenge, but the gelding is a strong, progressive type whose two latest ratings stand comfortably above those of his rivals, and with a chance of further improvement, he remains the runner to beat.
