With odds of $1.80, she leads the market ahead of Your Colour ($5) and Tharwa ($8). The $1 million VRC Oaks, run at 2500m on November 5 at Flemington, remains a prestigious event in Australian racing, with legacy winners and a strong tradition. Proxima Dea’s next target will be this cornerstone race.
- Proxima Dea is the $1.80 favourite for the 2026 VRC Oaks after winning the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes
- Your Colour and Tharwa, both trained by Chris Waller, follow in betting at $5 and $8 respectively
- The VRC Oaks, a premier race for three-year-old fillies, takes place on November 5 at Flemington
Unbeaten Spring Champion Stakes winner Proxima Dea has tightened her grip on the 2026 VRC Oaks market, with the David Payne-trained filly a clear favourite following Saturday's Group 1 victory at Randwick, while Chris Waller has the next two in betting for the $1 million feature at Flemington on November 5.
Proxima Dea is the $1.80 favourite with EliteBet after defeating Flight Stakes winner Global Goal by 1.5 lengths in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m at Randwick. The daughter of Tarzino has won all five starts, including the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes, and will now step up to 2500m at Flemington, with Payne confirming the Oaks as her next target.
Your Colour is next at $5 following her second to Quick Finish in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield on October 17, beaten half a length under Blake Shinn. The Chris Waller-trained daughter of Maurice had previously finished third behind Wonka in the Listed Dulcify Stakes over 1600m at Randwick, having broken her maiden at Newcastle in September.
Tharwa sits at $8 after finishing fourth in the Ethereal Stakes, beaten 1.1 lengths behind Quick Finish and just over half a length behind stablemate Your Colour. The Chris Waller-trained Tagaloa filly was having only her fourth start and had previously finished second over 1800m, with the Oaks presenting her first opportunity over 2500m.
Proxima Dea arrives off a Group 1 win, while Your Colour and Tharwa will have had nearly three weeks between the Ethereal Stakes and the Oaks, with Saturday's Wakeful Stakes providing another important lead-up before the final field is settled.

VRC Oaks History
A centrepiece of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the VRC Oaks was first run in 1861 when Palestine claimed the inaugural edition, establishing one of Australia's longest-running racing traditions alongside the Melbourne Cup.
The 2500m staying test has long showcased the nation's best three-year-old fillies, with champions such as Light Fingers (1964), Surround (1976), Miss Finland (2006) and Samantha Miss (2008) among its famous winners.
Originally contested over 2400m, the race moved to its current distance in 1973 and gained Group 1 status in 1979. It has also been known as the Crown Oaks and Kennedy Oaks through various sponsorship arrangements.
Run for $1 million in prizemoney, the VRC Oaks headlines Ladies Day on the Thursday of Cup Week at Flemington, with the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes over 2000m traditionally providing one of the strongest form references.
The honour roll includes several fillies who went on to further success, with Light Fingers winning the Melbourne Cup a year after her Oaks triumph, while Jameka (2015) returned the following spring to claim the Caulfield Cup. Legendary trainer Bart Cummings holds the record with nine VRC Oaks victories.
Zardozi (2023), Treasurethe Moment (2024) and Strictly Business (2025) have claimed the past three editions, with the latter providing trainer Thomas Carberry with his first Group 1 victory when defeating The Pearls by 3.5 lengths under John Allen at just her fourth career start.
