Swan Hill Value Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Motiver
A drop in grade and distance could bring Motiver right back into contention, with the five-year-old having recorded a determined victory at Warrnambool in September before finding stronger staying assignments beyond his reach.
The son of Dundeel scored by half a length over 2350m in a twelve-runner Benchmark 62 on Heavy ground, registering his first victory on a rain-affected surface and demonstrating the stamina required for Tuesday's 2400m contest.
His two subsequent appearances have come over longer distances in stronger company, most recently when fading to finish sixth, beaten ten lengths, in a highweight event at Warrnambool.
There is considerably more merit in that latest performance than the margin suggests, with the first two finishers both winning their following starts, while a return to Benchmark 62 company and a shorter trip should help the gelding produce a more competitive showing.
Dean Yendall reunites with Motiver for the first time since partnering him to his September victory, and with the prospect of firmer ground also in his favour, the combination looks an appealing value chance.

Swan Hill Best Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Habitual
A return to a familiar venue and distance provides Habitual with an excellent opportunity to regain winning form, with the five-year-old having finished in the first four on all three previous visits to Swan Hill.
The gelding's only unplaced appearance at the track came when fourth over this course and distance two starts ago, beaten just over two lengths in Benchmark 62 company despite failing to secure a minor placing.
Stepping up to 1856m at Kyneton subsequently proved less suitable, with Habitual finishing sixth after working hard from a wide draw, although he remained competitive for much of the contest before weakening late.
That performance has received a modest form boost through fourth-place finisher Idling Behind, who subsequently ran second at Echuca, while the return to 1600m looks particularly suitable given Habitual's previous success at the distance.
Barrier one should allow Linda Meech to secure an economical run after retaining the ride, and with the gelding proven around Swan Hill and returning to a more suitable assignment, he looks well placed to record his second career victory.

Swan Hill Roughie - Race 8 No. 5 Baganov
Two competitive placings this preparation suggest Baganov is building towards another victory, with the lightly raced gelding looking capable of surprising several more fancied rivals in Tuesday's 1300m finale.
The son of Russian Revolution resumed with a third over this distance on Soft 5 ground at Bendigo in September before producing another solid performance when third in a Class 1 over 1450m at Tatura later that month.
Both races have supplied subsequent winners, including the fifth-place finisher from his latest appearance, who returned to score at Bendigo, providing useful encouragement that Baganov's recent efforts have been stronger than they might initially appear.
Although dropping back in distance, the Nick Ryan-trained gelding has already demonstrated his effectiveness over 1300m, while barrier eight should give him room to settle into a comfortable rhythm and any unexpected track deterioration would present no concern.
Billy Egan takes the ride for just the second time, and with Baganov making only his seventh career appearance, there should be further improvement to come as he looks to record his second victory at attractive odds.
