Hawkesbury Tips October 27

Best Bet

Race 5 No. 4 He's Got Grunt

An excellent record at Hawkesbury makes He's Got Grunt particularly appealing in Tuesday's Benchmark 64, with both career victories coming at his home track and the latest arriving over 1600m earlier this month.

The Marc Chevalier-trained gelding controlled proceedings from a prominent position before drawing clear to score by a length, building on an encouraging fourth at Kembla Grange when resuming from a spell.

Stepping up to 1800m looks a natural progression for the son of Grunt, who was strong through the line last time and should appreciate the extra distance with the benefit of two runs behind him this campaign.

Although his latest success came on Good ground, the four-year-old has already won on Soft going and placed on Heavy, giving him the necessary versatility should conditions deteriorate further.

Tyler Schiller reunites with He's Got Grunt after partnering both previous victories, and with barrier three providing an economical passage, the combination looks well placed to complete a winning hat-trick at Hawkesbury.

Next Best

Race 7 No. 4 Mayleigh

A return to fillies and mares company presents Mayleigh with an excellent opportunity to record her second career victory, following three encouraging performances at Kembla Grange this preparation.

The daughter of Exceedance broke through second-up over 1400m, defeating eight rivals by half a length, before stepping up to 1600m against the males and finishing a narrow runner-up in Class 1 company.

That latest performance confirmed she has returned in excellent order, and dropping back to 1400m should present no concerns after proving effective at the distance earlier this campaign.

All three recent appearances have come on Good ground, making the forecast wetter conditions the main uncertainty, although barrier one should allow the mare to enjoy a favourable run without covering unnecessary ground.

Tommy Berry takes the ride for John Sargent, an appealing combination given their strong recent results together, and with Mayleigh racing consistently and returning to her own sex, she looks one of the leading chances on the card.

Market Mover

Race 1 No. 6 Water City

Strong early market support has arrived for Water City, with the Ciaron Maher-trained filly firming from $5.50 into $4 with Unibet Australia ahead of her second career appearance.

The three-year-old showed promise when finishing third at big odds on debut at Hawkesbury earlier this month, suggesting there should be plenty of improvement to come with that experience behind her.

Tuesday's assignment presents a new challenge on rain-affected ground, but the significant early support suggests Water City is expected to take another step forward as she looks to shed her maiden status.

Stats Say

John O'Shea and Tom Charlton have maintained a strong record with their Hawkesbury runners in 2026, producing five winners from ten starters at an impressive 50% strike rate.

Their sole representative on Tuesday is Rye Manhattan, who contests the 1800m maiden in Race 4 after showing promise in her first two career appearances.

The daughter of The Autumn Sun returned with a runner-up finish at Newcastle, and with Zac Lloyd booked for this assignment, she looks a genuine contender stepping up in distance.
