Doncaster Mile History

The Doncaster Mile is one of Sydney's most enduring races and the pinnacle of the Championships day one.

Also known as the Doncaster Handicap, the Mile was previously held every Easter Monday but was moved to be one of the showpeice events of the Championships, the grand final of autumn racing in Sydney.

First run and won back in 1866, the Doncaster Mile has seen some of the greatest ever horses salute in this event including Super Impose, Sunline and the champion Winx.

$3 million is the total prize pool of the Doncaster Mile, with the winner gaining a ballot exempt entry into the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
