The 2026 Doncaster Mile, a prestigious race at Sydney’s The Championships, features Sheza Alibi as the clear favorite. Carrying just 49kg after a dominant Randwick Guineas victory, Sheza Alibi is poised to perform well in the 1600m race. Key rivals include Autumn Boy, with a recent win at Rosehill Guineas, and Sixties, in strong form post-Phar Lap Stakes victory. Other notable contenders include Attica and Group 1 winners like Gringotts and Pericles, making the Doncaster Mile a competitive event.

Sheza Alibi (barrier 13) continues to go from strength to strength, building on a strong Victorian debut for the Moody and Coleman yard when placed at Listed level before reeling off four consecutive victories.

Her most recent win came via a dominant display in the Randwick Guineas, and under handicap conditions she drops sharply to just 49kg for the Doncaster Mile, where she is set to start a clear favourite in the 2026 edition.

Autumn Boy (barrier 1) looms as one of her key challengers, having finished second behind Sheza Alibi in the Randwick Guineas before bouncing back with a win in the Rosehill Guineas on Golden Slipper Day, and he returns to 1600m with the blinkers reapplied for this feature.

Another in-form three-year-old is Sixties (barrier 16), who has won three of four starts this campaign and rebounded from an Australian Guineas defeat with victory in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes on March 14.

Attica (barrier 3) placed in the Randwick Guineas behind both Sheza Alibi and Autumn Boy before finishing eighth in the George Ryder Stakes a fortnight ago, and the three-year-old looks better suited back to handicap conditions with just 50kg.

Headley Grange (barrier 7) worked through the grades last year and has caught the eye in both runs this preparation, while Gringotts (barrier 2), Pericles (barrier 14) and Linebacker (barrier 9) are Group 1 winners who add depth to the 2026 Doncaster Mile field.

Doncaster Mile Winners

The Doncaster Mile stands as one of Sydney’s most iconic races and headlines day one of The Championships.

Also known as the Doncaster Handicap, the race was traditionally staged on Easter Monday before being repositioned as a centrepiece of The Championships, now regarded as the grand final of Sydney’s autumn carnival.

The George Ryder Stakes remains the primary lead-up, with the Ranvet Stakes, Randwick Guineas and All-Star Mile also providing key form references.

Mr Brightside (2023), Celestial Legend (2024) and Stefi Magnetica (2025) have captured the past three editions of the Doncaster Mile.
