Doncaster Mile 2026 Weights Released

A total of 139 nominations have been received for the 161st running of the Doncaster Mile, a prestigious horse race with a prize of $4 million, set to take place at Royal Randwick on April 4, 2026. The leading contender, Ceolwulf, a four-time Group 1 winner, tops the weights at 59kg. Other notable horses include Gringotts and Sir Delius, who weigh in at 58.5kg and 58kg, respectively. Ballot exemptions are granted to several race winners, providing a pathway to the Queen Elizabeth Stakes for the Doncaster Mile victor.

A total of 139 nominations have been received for the 161st running of the $4 million Doncaster Mile, with Racing NSW releasing the official weights ahead of Day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Four-time Group 1 winner Ceolwulf heads the weights with 59kg under handicap conditions, with the race framed on a 50kg minimum (49kg for three-year-olds). His top-level record includes victories in the 2025 King Charles III Stakes and Cantala Stakes, adding to earlier wins in the 2024 King Charles III Stakes and Epsom Handicap.

Gringotts has been allotted 58.5kg following his 2025 George Ryder Stakes success, while Sir Delius will carry 58kg after claiming the Underwood Stakes (1800m) and Turnbull Stakes (2000m) in the spring.

Autumn Glow is the highest-weighted mare at 56.5kg after her 2025 Epsom Handicap and Golden Eagle wins, with reigning Doncaster Mile champion Stefi Magnetica and fellow Group 1 winner Lady Shenandoah both on 55.5kg.

Autumn Boy and Observer top the three-year-olds on 52kg after Group 1 victories in the Caulfield Guineas and Victoria Derby respectively, while NZ 1000 Guineas winner Well Written heads the fillies on 50kg. Flight Stakes winner Apocalyptic (49kg) and The Ingham winner Yorkshire (53kg) are currently ballot exempt.

Ballot exemptions also extend to the winners of the 2026 Chipping Norton Stakes (Verry Elleegant Stakes), Randwick Guineas, Canterbury Stakes, Coolmore Classic and George Ryder Stakes.

The 2026 Ajax Stakes and Doncaster Prelude winners receive exemption from both ballot and penalty, while the Doncaster Mile winner earns automatic entry into the 2026 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
