Another Wil bounced back to winning form last start when saluting in The Damien Oliver on Victoria Derby Day and he was then scratched from the Champions Mile due to an elevated temperature.
Given his last two failures have come over 1600m at Group 1 level when failing in high pressure events, staying at 1400m could be beneficial for the five-year-old, who is still searching for his first Group 1 victory.
Another Wil ($3) is favourite to win the 2024 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in the latest odds, while his stablemate Jimmysstar ($3.50) sits on the second line of betting for this Caulfield feature.
After four defeats to round out his summer/autumn campaign (three of them as an odds-on fav), the jury was out on the son of Per Incanto, however, with two wins followed by a runner-up finish in The Damien Oliver, he has bounced back this prep.
Ciaron Maher also prepares Southport Tycoon ($5) who is a two-time Group 1 winner and with those major victories being recorded at 1200m and 1600m, he's versatile in regards to distance.
The son of Written Tycoon was last seen finishing ninth-of-twenty in The Golden Eagle.
