Manikato Stakes History

First ran in 1968 as the Freeway Stakes, the Manikato Stakes is one of Melbourne's favourite sprint races.

This race gained its name in 1984 to honour the Manikato, who recorded two victories in this event.
In 2012 the Manikato Stakes moved to the Friday night before the Cox Plate, which is run under 24 hours later at the same track.

A number of Australia's favourite horses have delivered wins in this event, including the enigmatic sprinter great grey Chautauqua.

Manikato Stakes Field

The Manikato Stakes field will be set in the lead up to the event, most likely a week in advance of the race date.

Manikato Stakes Form Guide

The Manikato Stakes form guide has been difficult to assess in recent times.

The last three Manikato winners have recorded victories at big prices including Hey Doc (2017) at $21 and Rebel Dane at $61 the year prior to that.

Before that three-straight favourites took out the race, which makes this event an extremely hard one to negotiate.

Thankfully our team of experts will deliver your Manikato Stakes form guide so you won’t have to worry about navigating the minefield that is this sprinting event.
