Manikato Stakes 2025 Betting Odds - Lady Shenandoah leads the market
The 2025 Manikato Stakes is shaping up to be a highly anticipated sprint, with Lady Shenandoah established as a $2.00 favorite after an impressive run in the Concorde Stakes. Strong competition comes from Baraqiel, unbeaten at Moonee Valley, while Alabama Lass, Magic Time, and Skybird also pose serious threats. Recent scheduling changes have given the iconic 1200m Group 1 race standalone significance. Bettors should watch current form, track specialist records, and evolving odds for the best wagering strategies.
- Lady Shenandoah leads Manikato Stakes odds at $2 after impressive return
- Baraqiel unbeaten at Moonee Valley; Alabama Lass, Magic Time, and Skybird also strong contenders
- Manikato Stakes now runs on AFL Grand Final Friday; race boasts significant history and top past winners
Lady Shenandoah was luckless on return when runner-up in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes, and while she is yet to campaign in Melbourne, stepping to 1200m looks ideal for her second-up assignment in the Manikato Stakes.

The Chris Waller-trained mare was spelled after a pair of placings to open her career but furnished strongly last season, going unbeaten in five starts as a three-year-old — three of those at Group 1 level. At $2 with Betr, she is the favourite to win the 2025 Manikato Stakes.
Baraqiel ($4) has been a model of consistency, with eight wins and three thirds from 12 starts. Most of his defeats have come up the Flemington straight, while he has won eight of nine attempts around a bend.
He’s unbeaten in two runs this campaign, both at Moonee Valley, and he boasts a perfect four-from-four record at this track.
Alabama Lass ($8) was runner-up behind Baraqiel in the Moir Stakes on September 6 when resuming. The New Zealand visitor has never finished outside of the quinella in 10 starts, registering six wins and four seconds.
Magic Time ($8) resumed with a victory in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes and is already a dual Group 1 winner, while Skybird was luckless in her Moir Stakes return. The latter was successful in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning earlier this year, her only prior start of 2025.

Manikato Stakes Winners
First contested in 1968 as the Freeway Stakes, the Manikato Stakes is one of Melbourne’s premier sprint races.
It was renamed in 1984 to honour the legendary Manikato, a dual winner of the event. After being run on Cox Plate eve from 2012 to 2022, the race spent two years on Cox Plate day before shifting again.
Since 2024, the Manikato Stakes has replaced the Moir Stakes timeslot on the AFL Grand Final public holiday Friday, giving it a standalone spotlight.
Some of Australia’s most popular sprinters have claimed the 1200m Group 1, including Chautauqua, Buffering, Hay List, Miss Andretti, Sunline and Vain. Recent winners include Bella Nipotina (2022), Imperatriz (2023) and Southport Tycoon (2024).
