Morphettville Parks stages a nine-race metropolitan meeting on Saturday, November 7, with competitive handicap racing across the afternoon in Adelaide.

The track is currently rated a Good 4, with the rail out 3m from the 1200m to the winning post and true for the remainder, as several runners look to improve with fitness or return to more suitable conditions.

Morphettville Tips November 7

Philip Bryant Memorial Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Morphettville Value Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Darknconfidential

Darknconfidential has been building towards a stronger performance this preparation, with three runs providing a solid fitness foundation ahead of Saturday's 2260m assignment at Morphettville Parks.

The Stuart Gower-trained gelding resumed over an unsuitable 1250m on September 19, finishing fifth after doing his best work late in a slowly run affair and recording the fastest closing sectionals of the contest.

Little has gone his way in two subsequent appearances, settling back in a race that wasn't run to suit over 1522m on October 10 before drawing wide when stepping up to 2000m on October 24, where the leader-dominated contest was won by Placo.

That latest performance should bring him close to peak fitness, while his preference for firmer ground is another positive, having previously recorded three consecutive victories and remained competitive in Listed company earlier this year.

Although the son of Cosmic Force can mix his form and generally settles back in running, a better draw gives Todd Pannell more options, and a return to his stronger performances on Good ground would have him right in this.

Claude Haigh Memorial Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Morphettville Best Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Virtual Illusion

It's approaching D-Day for Virtual Illusion, who has had two runs to reach peak fitness and looks capable of making amends for an unlucky second-up defeat at Morphettville on October 24.

The Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained gelding appeared set to win that 1200m assignment, but a decision to not to look for an inside passage proved costly, with the eventual winner keeping Virtual Illusion held up at a crucial stage.

He had opened the campaign with a fifth-of-11 behind a handy Bred 'Em All over 1050m on October 10, finishing within 1.5 lengths of the winner, and now finds a suitable opportunity as he works back through the lower grades.

The son of Zousain won on debut at Morphettville Parks early last season and was far from disgraced in stronger races during the Adelaide Carnival, including a seventh-of 15-in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes when third-up in April.

A wider barrier may actually suit his racing pattern, particularly with genuine speed expected up front, and anything resembling his better Stakes performances would make Virtual Illusion extremely difficult to beat.

Mary Ford 90th Birthday Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Morphettville Roughie - Race 7 No. 11 Dobbinair

He looks capable of improving sharply with the rise to 1250m, having endured an unusual preparation that included an unsuccessful attempt at the Balaklava Cup over 1600m before dropping right back in distance.

The Shayne and Chelsea Cahill-trained gelding briefly loomed as a threat in the Balaklava feature before weakening late, with the mile ultimately proving beyond his preferred range.

Coming all the way back to 1050m at Morphettville on October 17 was always going to present a challenge, and while he struggled to get into a rhythm after settling near the rear, the son of Grunt warmed up considerably late to record the fastest final 400m and 200m of the contest.

Dobbinair now rises to what appears a more suitable distance, with his earlier form over sprint trips including a second behind The Cosmic One over 1200m and a third behind Light The Night over 1100m during August.

Saturday's Benchmark 86 has considerable depth, but the return to firmer ground and drop to the 54kg minimum are both positives for a genuine galloper who can produce a strong finish when circumstances suit.

77th Annual Legacy Race Day Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 11 Ronny Bee

Ronny Bee has made an encouraging start to life in South Australia under Wayne Brown, placing in all four appearances in his new home state and looking ready to record another victory.

The son of Justify resumed over 1200m on October 17 with a strong third behind Anotherhouse, launching late to finish within half a length of the winner while recording the second-fastest final 400m of the entire program.

His previous campaign also featured an excellent second behind Thunder Shoc on February 7, with that talented mare arriving in strong form before subsequently placing in Stakes company at her next two appearances.

Saturday's rise to 1400m looks ideal for Ronny Bee, who has already demonstrated his effectiveness over the distance, while the opposition doesn't appear to have the same depth as some of the races he has contested recently.

Although drawn wider than ideal, there looks to be genuine early speed in the finale, and provided the Morphettville Parks circuit isn't heavily favouring on-speed runners, that pressure should allow Ronny Bee to produce his strong finish.
