Cranbourne Tips November 6

The Valley @ Southside Cranbourne Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Cranbourne Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 11 Sondera

A rise to 1600m looks ideal for Sondera, with the Chris Waller-trained filly showing steady improvement this preparation and appearing ready to break through at her third run back.

The daughter of Stay Inside resumed over 1300m at Bendigo on October 4, finishing fourth before stepping up to 1479m at Kyneton, where she produced another encouraging performance to finish second behind Tuzemak.

That latest contest developed into a sit-and-sprint affair, with Sondera settling handy to the speed but unable to match the eventual winner's acceleration when the tempo increased approaching the finish.

The move to a mile should allow her to build momentum over a more suitable distance, while two runs this campaign provide a solid fitness foundation and suggest further improvement is likely.

Barrier three gives Jye McNeil every opportunity to settle the filly close to the speed, and with her recent form pointing towards a maiden victory, Sondera looks well placed to go one better.

Charter Keck Cramer Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Cranbourne Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Marsept

Marsept brings a significant class advantage into Friday night's 1200m assignment, with the Team Hawkes-trained mare returning from a spell after competing against much stronger opposition during her autumn preparation.

The daughter of Written Tycoon was runner-up at both Caulfield and Flemington during that three-start campaign, with those efforts separated by a dominant maiden victory at Geelong that highlighted her considerable ability.

Her performances also stand out on the figures, having recorded a first-up effort more than five lengths faster than standard benchmark time before concluding the preparation with a rating almost 12 lengths above standard.

Those figures are comfortably superior to anything her rivals have produced, and while race fitness is the obvious query after a spell, she has already demonstrated she can perform at a high level fresh.

With a favourable draw providing the opportunity to settle within striking distance, Marsept looks capable of overcoming any fitness concerns and resuming with a victory before potentially progressing to stronger races later in her preparation.

Drummond Golf Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Cranbourne Value Bet - Race 8 No. 4 Power And The Beat

A more genuinely run race could bring about a sharp improvement from Power And The Beat, who has shown enough across his two appearances this preparation to suggest he remains capable of returning to winning form.

The Smiley Chan-trained gelding resumed with an encouraging third over 1247m at Geelong before stepping up to 1400m on Geelong Cup Day, where he finished fifth after being unable to match the acceleration of his rivals.

There were similar signs during his debut preparation, when the son of Belardo produced a disappointing second-up performance before improving by more than four lengths on benchmark figures to win at Geelong.

That previous progression provides encouragement ahead of his third-up assignment, particularly with the rise to 1600m and a potentially stronger tempo looking suitable for a galloper who appears to appreciate time to build into his races.

Finance Shogun and Hedjet should ensure there is genuine early speed, while barrier two gives Power And The Beat an opportunity to secure an economical run and finish strongly if the race unfolds as expected.
