Golden Rose 2025 - Barrier Draw & Final Field
The 2025 Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens promises another thrilling chapter, with Godolphin seeking back-to-back victories through Tempted, a standout filly after winning The Run To The Rose. Other notable contenders include Autumn Boy, Skyhook, Wodeton, and Nepotism, each bringing strong form or pedigree to the contest. The Golden Rose, now well established as a Group 1 stallion-making race, has seen recent winners like Jacquinot, Militarize, and Broadsiding. This year’s 1400m event continues its tradition as a key highlight for Australia’s top three-year-olds.

A consistent filly during her juvenile campaign, the daughter of Street Boss returned in style when taking out The Run To The Rose earlier this month, stamping herself as the horse to beat in this year’s edition.
Autumn Boy (barrier 7) looms as one of the main challengers. The colt strung together two quality wins in June and, while there is a small query about him staying at 1400m, his strong closing effort first-up on September 13 signalled he is in for a big spring campaign.
Skyhook (barrier 5) made an immediate impression when resuming with a sweeping victory in the Rosebud on August 16. He endured little luck second-up in The Run To The Rose but finished off well under the circumstances.
Wodeton (barrier 1) is yet to fully match the high expectations from early in his career, but he continues to race honestly and consistently. Now third-up, he brings valuable race fitness into this Golden Rose test.
Nepotism (barrier 3) announced himself with a Champagne Stakes triumph earlier this year and adds extra depth to the Golden Rose field. He is from the same family as 2020 winner Ole Kirk and the legendary Black Caviar, and is trained by Team Hawkes, who also prepared Ole Kirk to win this race.
The 2025 Golden Rose will be run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, September 27, with the 1400m Group 1 again shaping as a spring highlight for the three-year-olds.

Golden Rose Winners
The Golden Rose was first staged in 1978 under the name Peter Pan Stakes, paying tribute to the champion stayer and dual Melbourne Cup hero. It later adopted its current title when the event was downgraded from Group 2 to unlisted status, despite prize money being boosted to $1 million.
Run over 1400m, the race quickly regained prestige and was elevated to Group 1 level in 2009. Since then it has firmly established itself as a stallion-making contest, producing future sires such as Zoustar, Exosphere, Trapeze Artist, The Autumn Sun and Ole Kirk.
In more recent times, Jacquinot (2022), Militarize (2023) and Broadsiding (2024) have added their names to the honour roll of Golden Rose winners.
