The daughter of So You Think has furnished as her second campaign has worn on, with her breakthrough coming at Group 2 level when taking out the Edward Manifold Stakes, where she overcame trouble. Prior to her Wakeful success, Getta Good Feeling was third in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas.

Somewhat interestingly, Chris Waller is still searching for his first VRC Oaks winner, and the champion trainer prepares The Pearls ($8.50), who was a Hawkesbury maiden winner on September 25 before recording back-to-back Group placings.

The latest of those came when finishing third in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, which reads as solid form now back against the fillies.

Spicy Lu ($9) has won four of eight starts, including two at stakes level, with her latest success coming over 2000m in the Ethereal Stakes where she held off Just A Journey ($9.50).

Strictly Business ($10) was doing her best work late when runner-up behind Getta Good Feeling in the Wakeful Stakes, with the Thomas Carberry-trained galloper only second-up at start three and stepping to 2000m after a 1400m maiden triumph.

VRC Oaks Winners

A centrepiece of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the VRC Oaks was first run in 1861 and won by Palestine, marking the beginning of one of Australia’s most enduring racing traditions.

The 2500m staying test has long showcased the nation’s best three-year-old fillies, with champions such as Light Fingers (1964) and Miss Finland (2006) among its famous winners. In more recent decades, the race has remained a key spring highlight for both breeders and punters alike.

Run for $1 million in prizemoney, the VRC Oaks headlines Ladies Day on the Thursday of Cup Week at Flemington and continues to hold strong Group 1 prestige.

Though the field depth can vary year to year, the Oaks crown remains a defining moment for any emerging filly and a valuable addition to any stable’s record.

Willowy (2021), She’s Extreme (2022), Zardozi (2023), and Treasurethe Moment (2024) have won the past four editions of the VRC Oaks.
