Autumn Boy and Observer renew their rivalry, with these two colts the only runners in single figures for the Rosehill Guineas.

The Chris Waller-trained youngster got the better of Observer in their Caulfield Guineas clash back in spring.

Much was made of the unlucky run of Observer in that 1600m feature, but he was still beaten 2.5 lengths and Autumn Boy also had to overcome some trouble.

Observer won his next four appearances, two at Group 1 level, whereas Autumn Boy was spelled after the Caulfield Guineas and resumed with a solid run in the Hobartville Stakes before running into a freak in Sheza Alibi in the Randwick Guineas.

He still put a good margin on third, and while untried at 2000m, breeding and that latest effort suggest he is looking for it now.

Deal Done Fast is an interesting runner from Victoria, contesting this as a maiden but potentially on an Australian Derby path.

There are form lines tying through Observer, having finished third behind him in the Victoria Derby before a spell.

He lacked the turn-of-foot of the favourite on that occasion but was still good through the line.

His Autumn Classic resumption on February 21 was a cracker, making ground from the rear with the fastest closing sectionals of that Group 2.

The son of Dundeel now gets Damian Lane in the saddle and is clearly going well enough to warrant the trip north, bypassing some softer options closer to home.
