The Ranvet Stakes is a 2000m weight-for-age feature worth $1 million and serves as the first of five Group 1 races on the famous Golden Slipper Day program at Rosehill Gardens.

First run in 1903, the race was known as the Rawson Stakes until 1987 and was elevated to Group 1 status in 1980.

Early money has all come for Aeliana, who improved off a 1400m resumption when contesting the Verry Elleegant Stakes second-up and beat all but unbeaten star stablemate Autumn Glow in that last attempt.

In the process, she safely put a big margin on a resuming Sir Delius, who is her main threat here.

2000m does bring the second elect right into consideration, and off spring references Sir Delius was the better horse of this pair, but we are still banking on him to turn around and make up that margin in a fortnight.

He can do it, but it will be a challenge.

Aeliana should have won the Rosehill Guineas on this program last year before taking out the Australian Derby, and this looks her chance to get back on the winner’s board.

2026 Ranvet Stakes Value Bet - Trinity College

Trinity College also comes through the Verry Elleegant Stakes, but was fair on Australian debut in that attempt, where he was effectively given another trial.

There was an opportunity to settle closer, but he was beaten by sharper types and was just allowed to find his feet before working home nicely, albeit without threatening.

His last European victory was at Royal Ascot last year over this distance at Group 3 level before a narrow defeat when stepping up to 2400m in a Group 1, when beaten as a $1.60 favourite.

Whether that improves enough to worry the main fancies remains to be seen, but getting to 2000m will help.

There is an opportunity to settle closer from barrier two, with rain-affected ground potentially another positive.
