Following an unlucky third in last year’s Caulfield Guineas, Observer won his next four starts, with two of those coming at Group 1 level, including his latest success when saluting by half a length as favourite in the Australian Guineas.

He proved his credentials over longer distances in the spring when winning both the Victoria Vase and the Victoria Derby, and the rise to 2000m appears a logical progression third-up this preparation.

Observer heads the betting for the 2026 Rosehill Guineas at $2.50 with Unibet Australia.

Autumn Boy ($2.80) was spelled after a Caulfield Guineas triumph in the spring and, following a solid return in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes on February 21, the Chris Waller-trained colt was no match for the classy Sheza Alibi when runner-up in the Randwick Guineas.

While not yet tried at 2000m, the colt looks well suited to the longer journey at this stage of his preparation.

Green Spaces ($8) hasn’t figured in either the Hobartville Stakes or the Randwick Guineas in two runs this campaign, but the step to 2000m appears suitable off his latest effort over a mile.

Victorious Spirit ($11) is a progressive Victorian galloper who made ground for third behind Observer in the Autumn Stakes on resumption before finishing fourth-of-ten in the Australian Guineas second-up, a race also taken out by Observer.

Rosehill Guineas Winners

The Rosehill Guineas is one of Australia’s premier three-year-old races, with the Group 1 feature serving as the second leg of the Sydney autumn’s Triple Crown, positioned between the Randwick Guineas and the Australian Derby.

It has been a relatively kind race for punters in recent years, with five of the last seven winners starting favourite, including popular elects The Autumn Sun, Mo’unga, Anamoe, Riff Rocket and Broadsiding.

While it is traditionally a lead-up to the Australian Derby, the Rosehill Guineas is often considered the stronger race, particularly as many well-bred colts do not progress to the 2400m staying trip if successful here.

Lindermann (2023), Riff Rocket (2024) and Broadsiding (2025) have won the past three editions of the Rosehill Guineas.
