Aeliana, despite not having won since the Australian Derby, is a strong favorite for the 2026 Ranvet Stakes, based on her runner-up finishes in recent Group 1 races. The Chris Waller-trained mare excelled in her second outing of the season and is expected to benefit from the 2000m distance. Sir Delius, another potent contender, aims to reclaim his form in the Ranvet Stakes. Trinity College completes the single-figure odds list, needing improvement to beat favored rivals.

Aeliana hasn’t won since her Australian Derby romp last autumn; however, the mare has still produced several competitive efforts at Group 1 weight-for-age level, including runner-up finishes in the Winx Stakes and the Makybe Diva Stakes earlier in the season.

Second-up this campaign on February 28, the Chris Waller-trained mare defeated all but the smart and unbeaten Autumn Glow over a mile.

The rise to 2000m should suit the mare third-up, having improved off a 1400m resumption a fortnight prior to that strong effort in the Verry Elleegant Stakes.

In the 2026 Ranvet Stakes market with Neds, Aeliana is the $1.60 favourite.

Sir Delius ($2.90) was well held in the Verry Elleegant Stakes when resuming on February 28, but it was still a pass-mark effort for the son of Frankel.

The entire will appreciate stepping up to 2000m, with his last Group 1 victory coming over that distance in the Turnbull Stakes back in October, when he comfortably handled a strong field that included Aeliana.

He has also won two of his three second-up attempts, the latest coming over Buckaroo at Group 1 level in September.

Lindemann ($7), a six-time Group winner, failed to fire in the Verry Elleegant Stakes last start, although there were excuses with cardiac arrhythmia detected post-race after arriving there off a Group 2 placing in the Apollo Stakes on return.

The gelding was also in terrific form last campaign, winning three of his final four appearances, with the only defeat in that stretch a narrow loss to Fangirl in the 7 Stakes.

Stefi Magnetica ($11), a dual Group 1 winner, was last seen contesting the All-Star Mile when second-up on March 7.

She was well held there; however, the mare brings strong third-up statistics, including victories in both of her major triumphs in the 2024 Stradbroke Handicap and last year’s Doncaster Mile.

Trinity College ($13) is a Chris Waller-trained import who was not disgraced on Australian debut in the Verry Elleegant Stakes; however, the four-year-old has ground to make up if the tables are to be turned on Aeliana and Sir Delius.

The import was a Group 3 winner over this distance at Royal Ascot in 2025, while his last European campaign culminated in a Group 1 placing over 2400m.

Ranvet Stakes Winners

The Ranvet Stakes has a rich honour roll of past champions since its inception in 1903, including famous winners such as Lough Neagh, Bernborough, Tulloch, Wenona Girl and Sky High in the earlier years, before more modern champions like Gunsynd, Better Loosen Up, Tie The Knot, Verry Elleegant and Via Sistina.

This feature is run over 2000m at Rosehill Gardens and was afforded Group 1 status in 1980, when it was known as the Rawson Stakes.

The Ranvet Stakes is one of five Group 1 races on a stacked Golden Slipper Day card and, given it is run at weight-for-age level, we often see a strong field of locals and imports assembled for the 2000m feature.

Dubai Honour (2023) and Via Sistina (2024 and 2025) have won the past three editions of the Ranvet Stakes.
