Due to Moonee Valley renovations, the William Reid Stakes will be hosted at Caulfield in 2026 and, at $1.80 with Unibet Australia, Jimmysstar leads the early market.
Jimmysstar was one of the more consistent elite-level performers in Australia throughout 2025, a calendar year that yielded three Group 1 victories, two of which came at Caulfield in the Oakleigh Plate and the C.F. Orr Stakes.
The gelding will resume in the William Reid Stakes off two slick jump-out wins at Cranbourne and brings excellent first-up statistics, having recorded five wins and a second placing from seven fresh attempts.
Angel Capital ($8), a multiple Group 1 placegetter, improved sharply off a first-up miss when finishing third in the Newmarket Handicap on March 7 and shapes as one of the key contenders in the early market.
He shares the second line of betting with Jigsaw ($8), who is in career-best form despite being a seven-year-old, having won his past five attempts including a Group 1 victory in New Zealand back in January before a dominant all-the-way victory in the VOBIS Gold Sprint at Caulfield last Saturday.

William Reid Stakes Winners
The William Reid Stakes is one of Australia’s premier 1200m weight-for-age sprint races and is traditionally run at Moonee Valley during the Autumn Carnival, where it has long headlined the venue’s final night meeting of the season, although the race now features on a daytime metropolitan program in Melbourne.
Due to redevelopment works at Moonee Valley, the 2026 edition of the William Reid Stakes will be staged at Caulfield.
The William Reid Stakes dates back to 1925, with Manikato the most successful horse in the history of the race after winning the sprint five consecutive times from 1979 to 1983.
Comic Court, Vo Rogue, Miss Andretti, Apache Cat and Black Caviar are among the other champions to have won the William Reid Stakes, which was afforded Group 1 status in 1987.
Imperatriz (2023 and 2024) and Schwarz (2025) have won the past three editions of the William Reid Stakes.
