Beaumont Newcastle Tips August 25

TAB Midway Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)

Beaumont Newcastle Best Bet - Race 2 No. 11 Yvonne's Joy

It has been a decent start to the season for trainer John Thompson, who is striking at 24% in August with an ROI of 21%.

Thompson prepares Yvonne's Joy, who looks well placed dropping back to provincial level after two metropolitan assignments, the latest coming in a Canterbury midweek maiden on August 12 when she worked home well for fourth-of-eight.

That followed a second-up sixth-of-10 in a late-season Saturday two-year-old handicap at Randwick on July 25, with the campaign having opened a fortnight earlier when she was beaten at a short price in a 900m dash at Newcastle.

There has clearly been a good opinion of the filly from early on, having contested Group races in two of her first three appearances, while she also won a trial on Heavy ground ahead of this winter preparation.

Yvonne's Joy is untried beyond 1200m, but her latest Sydney effort suggested the extra distance should suit and, in a modest Set Weights maiden, she gets every chance to break through under Kerrin McEvoy, who has ridden her in each of her past two starts.

NZB 4YO&UP Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Beaumont Newcastle Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Force March

The 1150m first-up looks a little sharp for Force March, although this is the first time the son of Grunt has drawn an inside barrier.

The Newcastle local moved well in a Beaumont trial on August 3, working nicely through the line under a hold when narrowly beaten into second under Christian Reith, who takes the ride again on Tuesday.

Reith was also aboard when Force March finished runner-up at Wyong on April 4 before a spell, with the gelding covering ground after settling off the speed in a race that has since produced three subsequent winners.

He had also been unsuited at his previous start over 1300m on his home circuit when working home from the rear for fourth, while there was still plenty to like about that Wyong effort after finding himself in a tricky position before doing his best work late.

Force March retains plenty of upside, handled Soft tracks well enough through his first campaign and has also completed encouraging trial work on Good ground either side of that preparation.

Horsepower Feeds & Supplements Class 1 Tips (Race 4)

Beaumont Newcastle Value Bet - Race 4 No. 9 Nafanua

Getting down in the weights and stripping fitter third-up makes Nafanua an interesting runner in Tuesday's 1150m Class 1, with the Bjorn Baker-trained mare now 1kg under the minimum after Jet Newman's claim.

The apprentice was aboard for her second-up defeat as a drifting favourite at Bathurst on August 17, where the daughter of Tagaloa only had herself to blame after taking up the running and laying out in the straight proved costly in a narrow loss.

That followed a good first-up effort over this distance at Illawarra Grange, where she placed and arguably should have finished a little closer.

Nafanua was a third-up winner in March when rounding out that campaign with an all-the-way victory at Cowra, and blinkers are applied now in the hope they can sharpen her up after she did plenty wrong at Bathurst.

She carries 3.5kg less than last start and, from a prominent position on settling with the option to lead under Newman, Nafanua can give a good sight in the opening leg of the quaddie.

A-Plus Contracting & Poly Welding F&M Tips (Race 6)

Beaumont Newcastle Roughie - Race 6 No. 9 Beverly Hills

There was some early promise from Beverly Hills as both a late two-year-old and early three-year-old, beginning with a fourth-of-seven on debut in a Canterbury maiden last July when respected in the market.

After being well held first-up at Rosehill on October 1, the Chris Waller-trained daughter of I Am Invincible improved sharply to lead throughout in a 1250m Newcastle maiden before placing third-of-eight in a metropolitan BM64 against her own sex.

That form reads well through The Mona Lisa, who went on to become a three-time metropolitan winner this winter, while runner-up Virgil's Gift also subsequently won in the city.

Beverly Hills did not quite come up in a short preparation earlier this season, although there have been excuses in both winter runs, including covering ground on Soft going at Canterbury first-up.

There was also some merit in her August 6 Gosford performance in a leader-dominated race despite being well held, and with better fortune she is capable of improving at a bigger price.
