Roma vs Fiorentina Serie A Tips, Prediction & Live Stream - Roma to prevail in Serie A opener at home

Roma are predicted to extend their exceptional defensive home record as they kick off the new Serie A season against Fiorentina. Last season, Roma conceded just 10 goals at the Stadio Olimpico and won five consecutive games to secure a Champions League spot. With new signings and in-form striker Donyell Malen, Roma are heavily favored, especially given their dominant head-to-head history versus Fiorentina, who are in transition under new coach Fabio Grosso. The article recommends backing Roma to win to nil.

Roma vs Fiorentina Serie A Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Roma are tipped to extend their strong defensive home record from last season by beating Fiorentina to nil when the two teams clash at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday night, with Dutch striker Donyell Malen getting on the scoresheet.

After securing Champions League football during a brilliant season last term, Roma will be looking to get this campaign off to a positive start at home here - and they should be confident of coming away with all three points.

Roma's defence at home was the best in the league last term - indeed, they only leaked 10 goals for the entire season at the Stadio Olimpico.

With just three defeats in 19 league home outings last season and with a strong recent record over Fiorentina in front of their own fans, this is a favourable spot to back Roma to launch the campaign.

Fiorentina spent most of last season languishing near the relegation zone before finding a late spark to secure safety. Fabio Grosso is now in charge at the Viola, but they will need immediate and considerable improvement to get a result against this settled and strong Roma outfit.

I'm taking Roma to win this game to nil, while Donyell Malen was in sizzling form since arriving from Aston Villa last season and can pick up from where he left off here.
  • Roma were unbeaten in 16 of their 19 league home games last season
  • Roma only conceded 10 goals in those 19 league games
  • Roma are unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 season openers, winning eight
  • Roma have won nine of their last 12 home league games
  • Roma have won six of their last seven home games vs Fiorentina
  • Roma scored exactly two goals in three of those six wins
  • Fiorentina only have one away win over Roma in the Serie A since 2012
  • Fiorentina failed to win across their first 15 league games last term
  • Donyell Malen scored 14 goals in 18 games for Roma in the Serie A last season

Roma vs Fiorentina Head To Head

Roma have won the last three meetings between the teams and are unbeaten in 49 of the last 52 encounters at the Stadio Olimpico, winning 33.

Roma Form Analysis

It was a tremendous season for Roma last term, with Gian Piero Gasperini guiding the team back to Champions League football with a third place finish.

Roma won their last five games of the season, ending the campaign above the likes of Juventus and AC Milan.

Now, the next step for Roma is to challenge Inter for the title and former Europa League winner Gasperini certainly seems the right man to lead the charge.

Defence remains the foundation, with only Arsenal and PSG keeping more home clean sheets than Roma across Europe's top five leagues last season.

Roma Team News

Roma have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season, with Rodrigo Mora and Konstantinos Koulierakis joining and a chance to feature - but it could be from the bench.

Argentine striker Santiago Castro also arrives from Bologna and will challenge Malen and veteran Paulo Dybala for minutes up front.

Another Argentine in Nahuel Molina could also make his club debut. Wesley (ankle) and Lorenzo Pellegrini are the only fitness doubts, but both could play.

Roma Possible Starting XI (3-4-2-1): Mile Svilar; Gianluca Mancini, Evan Ndicka, Mario Hermoso; Nahuel Molina, Manu Kone, Bryan Cristante, Wesley; Matias Soule, Paulo Dybala; Donyell Malen

Fiorentina Form Analysis

It was a shocking start to the season for Fiorentina as they failed to win across the opening 15 rounds, finding themselves in a big relegation battle.

Paolo Vanoli stepped in and helped Fiorentina secure safety, with La Viola registering the seventh-most points during the second-half of the season.

Despite that significant improvement, Vanoli has made way for Italian World Cup winner Fabio Grosso, who has arrived as the new manager from Sassuolo.

Fiorentina ended last season unbeaten in 10 of their last 11 games and finished the preseason with back-to-back draws against Real Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna.

Fiorentina Team News

Grosso has been given the funds to splurge on his new squad, with the likes of Arthur Atta, Christ Oulai, Mateo Pellegrino and rising teenage star Franco Mastantuono all a chance to make their competitive debuts here.

Moise Kean has been Fiorentina's top scorer across the last two seasons and should lead the line to launch the new campaign.

Possible Fiorentina Starting XI (4-3-3): David De Gea; Mario, Radu Dragusin, Luca Ranieri, Valdepenas; Cher Ndour, Nicolo Fagioli, Christ Oulai; Franco Mastantuono, Arthur Atta; Moise Kean

Verdict

Roma are backed to win this game to nil, continuing their dominant home form over Fiorentina.
