The Canucks, unbeaten in 16 of their last 17 outings and strong at home, look set for a breakthrough with star striker Jonathan David expected to deliver. Bosnia, reliant on veteran Edin Dzeko and lacking recent wins against strong teams, are the underdogs. Canada vs Bosnia & Herzegovina Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Canada have a great opportunity to secure their first ever World Cup victory when they host Bosnia & Herzegovina at the BMO Field in Toronto on Friday.

Landing in a favourable group that also features Switzerland and Qatar, Canada are expected to advance into the knockout phase of a World Cup for the first time. The Canucks have lost all six of their previous World Cup games and this will be just their third appearance on the big stage. Meanwhile, Bosnia & Herzegovina are appearing in the World Cup finals for the first time since being bundled out of the 2014 group stage in Brazil.

Despite a magical qualifying campaign in which they edged out Italy and Wales on penalties, this Bosnian outfit looks fairly limited and over-reliant on 40-year-old talismanic striker Eden Dzeko, who's also been carrying a shoulder injury into this tournament and missed a recent friendly against Panama - which they failed to win. Dzeko has a record 73 goals for his country, no other player in the 26-man squad has more than four.

The Bosnians don't have any notable wins inside 90 minutes over the last few years, while Canada are unbeaten in 16 of their last 17 matches inside 90 minutes. With home ground advantage and great record in Toronto, Canada won't get a better chance to win a World Cup game - and I think they take it, with star striker Jonathan David getting amongst the goals.
  • Canada are unbeaten in 16 of their last 17 games inside 90 minutes
  • Canada are unbeaten in 26 of their last 27 games in Toronto
  • Bosnia are winless in their last five games inside 90 mins
  • Bosnia's only wins since 2023 have come vs Liechtenstein, Romania, Cyprus, San Marino & Malta
  • Canada have seen BTTS - No in nine of their last 11 games
  • Canada have seen Under 2.5 goals in nine of their last 10 games
  • Two of Canada's last four wins have been by a 1-0 score
  • Jonathan David has scored nine goals in his last 20 games for Canada & looked lively in their last friendly game vs Ireland with three shots & four touches inside the opposition box

Canada vs Bosnia & Herzegovina Head To Head

This will be the first ever meeting between the two nations.

Canada Form Analysis

Canada enjoyed automatic qualification for just their third ever World Cup appearance as one of the three host nations.

Fair to say their previous appearances have been nothing to write home about, with Canada losing all six games and scoring just two goals - one of which was an own goal.

However, expectations are much higher this time around as one of the hosts and in the expanded 48-team format.

Jesse Marsch's side are unbeaten in their last eight games, earning solid draws against South American sides Ecuador and Colombia, while their last hit-out resulted in a 1-1 draw with Ireland after previously taking care of Uzbekistan 2-0.

Canada Team News

Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies is carrying a hamstring strain and is in some doubt for the World Cup opener.

Canada still have a stack of talent at their disposal, including Juventus forward Jonathan David, Ismael Kone and Alistair Johnston.

David is the main man up front with 39 goals for his country. Maxime Crepeau should start in goals after missing the 2022 World Cup through injury.

Bosnia & Herzegovina Form Analysis

This will be Bosnia's second appearance at the World Cup, with their only other showing resulting in group state elimination at Brazil 2014.

It was a dramatic qualification campaign for Bosnia, with the team securing their ticket to North America after surviving both Wales and Italy on penalties.

Sergej Barbarez's side are unbeaten in their last eight games, but it's fair to say that outside of those somewhat fortuitous penalty triumphs, the Bosnians haven't really beaten any team of note over the last few years.

The Zmajevi's two warm-up friendlies did little to inspire any confidence, registering a 0-0 stalemate with North Macedonia before a 1-1 draw with Panama.

Bosnia & Herzegovina Team News

There's no doubt this team is still built around 40-year-old veteran Dzeko, who made his senior debut for the national team back in 2007.

Dzeko missed the draw with Panama last week with a shoulder injury and it remains to be seen if he takes his place in the starting side here. Haris Tabakovic has been named in the squad, but is also doubtful with an ankle injury.
