Belmont Best Bet - Race 1 No. 4 Bassett Hound

Starting to deliver on the early hype is Bassett Hound, who was luckless on debut and then placed twice during the summer without getting on the board.

However, he has come on since then, returning with a dominant maiden victory on April 29.

The gelding then handled the rise to Saturday company with relative ease on May 30, saluting as an odds-on favourite despite encountering traffic in the run.

He was also back to 1000m after resuming over 1100m, which was a slight negative heading into that assignment.

Getting to six furlongs looks a positive now that he is starting to furnish, and while Long Service Leave is another progressive sprinter chasing a third straight win this prep, Bassett Hound may be the better suited of the pair at the trip.

Belmont Roughie - Race 4 No. 4 I Love Your Smile

It was hard to miss the May 23 return when I Love Your Smile recorded the fastest last 200m of a 66+ event over a mile.

Despite having no previous second-up victories, that performance saw her respected in the market on a seven-day backup when stepping straight to 2100m.

That was not an ideal setup so early in the campaign.

Although well held behind a pair she meets again, the daughter of Sebring was also unsuited by the race shape after settling back before working home strongly.

She strips fitter for that staying performance and, with her last two wins both coming over this track-and-trip, she appeals as a value chance regardless of whether the track remains in the good or soft range.

Liquor Barons Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Territory Man

William Pike is having a superb June, with 14 winners at a strike-rate of 38% so far this month.

Belmont has been a happy hunting ground, with a winning double here on Wednesday adding to the four winners he rode at the track last Saturday.

He combines with the Williams-trained Territory Man, a stable he is striking at better than 31% with this season.

The gelding was given a workmanlike trial in his latest hit-out on June 2, but that should have him ready for a first-up tilt at seven furlongs.

Both of his career victories have come over this trip, and the lightly raced four-year-old appears to have more upside than many of his rivals in this One Metro Win contest, with the wide draw no major concern.

Peters Investments Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Belmont Value Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Our Paladin Al

The Group 3 Hyperion Stakes flop was well out of character for Our Paladin Al.

He may have been outclassed there regardless, although there were excuses for the May 30 performance.

It was subsequently revealed that he required treatment for a mouth ulcer following that run.

While he has not fully built on some of the earlier promise and consistency, his first two efforts this campaign were much better than they appear on paper.

He worked home strongly along the inside first-up at Ascot before recording the fastest closing sectionals of a 72+ event at Belmont on May 16, and with a fitness platform now in place, this looks a far more suitable race if he returns to that level.
