Blind Raise created a strong impression through his first two starts in April, opening his career with a dominant Sandown maiden victory over 1400m before handling the rise to stakes level when taking out the Listed Anzac Day Stakes.

The son of Ace High saluted by two lengths in the Flemington feature, and on breeding, the rise to a mile should suit the Victorian galloper, who has trialled since his most recent victory on April 25.

Blind Raise is the outright favourite to win the 2026 JJ Atkins, with EliteBet quoting him at $4.60.

The only other runner at a single-figure price is Tron Bolt ($8), who broke through in strong fashion at Randwick-Kensington on May 13.

The Chris Waller-trained colt gives the champion trainer a chance to secure a fourth JJ Atkins victory and a first since The Autumn Sun scored in the race back in 2018.

Martist ($11) heads the local hopes for leading Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan.

After showing ability in his first two starts, which included a debut victory followed by a runner-up finish, the youngster was hard to miss when charging home for second in the Group 2 Spirit Of Boom Classic on May 16.

JJ Atkins Winners

The JJ Atkins was first run in 1893 and has been won by some of the great names in Australian racing history, including Mahogany, Luskin Star and, more recently, The Autumn Sun.

Run during the Brisbane Winter Carnival, the Group 1 feature is regarded as Queensland’s premier race for two-year-olds and has regularly produced future stars of the Australian turf.

The race has been conducted over a variety of distances throughout its history, including 1200m and 1400m, although since 1973 it has primarily been contested over 1600m.

A number of elite performers have used the JJ Atkins as a launching pad for future Group 1 success, adding further prestige to the long-running juvenile feature.

King Colorado (2023), Broadsiding (2024) and Cool Archie (2025) have won the past three editions of the JJ Atkins.
