After being unsuited on resumption in the All Aged Stakes, Fangirl contested the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup on the fresh side, with a tick-over trial also completed after her Randwick return.
It was a strong closing performance from the seven-year-old, who flashed home from the rear to grab third, and the four-time Group 1 winner is suited by the extra 100m of the Stradbroke Handicap.
At $7 with Unibet Australia, Fangirl shares favouritism with Regal Award, a three-year-old who had frustrated punters prior to his March 30 victory in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic.
The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper now drops sharply in the weights under handicap conditions, carrying just 49.5kg with Luke Cartwright taking the reins.
Headley Grange ($7.50) had been mostly consistent without much luck prior to his Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup victory, where the Joe Pride-trained galloper was well backed.
Given the weight-for-age form references from this year's edition, he is not poorly treated with 55kg here.
Another Wil ($12) was fair on resumption in the Doomben 10,000 before a sharp improvement when finishing fourth of 16 in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup.
Now third-up from a decent break, the son of Street Boss could be set for a peak performance.
Sixties was beaten just over two lengths in the Fred Best Classic, where he was on the fresh side after contesting the Doncaster Mile in April, with the colt already a three-time Group winner this season.
Keeping around the seven-furlong range appears suitable, although he will need a scratching to gain a start as the first emergency.
Sixties is at a $14 quote with Splash Back, who backed up an unlucky Sapphire Stakes return with victory in the Group 2 Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm.
She now drops back to handicap conditions for the Stradbroke Handicap after contesting the Kingsford-Smith Cup and is set to carry 52kg in this feature.
Transatlantic and Private Eye share a $16 quote, with both being previous Group 1 winners, while Private Eye finished third in last year's Stradbroke Handicap.
Now third-up from a break, local contender Transatlantic should not be far away after winning the Group 1 Toorak Handicap at the same stage of his preparation in the spring.

Stradbroke Handicap Winners
The Stradbroke Handicap was first run in 1890 and boasts a rich history, with champions such as Rough Habit, Dane Ripper and All Our Mob among the greats to have captured Queensland’s premier sprint feature.
Long regarded as one of Australia’s most famous handicap races, the Group 1 contest is a centrepiece of the Brisbane Winter Carnival and regularly attracts elite sprinters from across the country.
The Stradbroke Handicap has been run over 1400m for the majority of its history, although the race was contested over 1350m at Doomben in 2014 and 2015 due to the Eagle Farm track redevelopment.
The honour roll of the race also includes some of the biggest names in Australian racing history, with Rough Habit famously winning the feature on two occasions during the early 1990s.
Think About It (2023), Stefi Magnetica (2024) and War Machine (2025) have won the past three editions of the Stradbroke Handicap.
