Both teams have a number of outs with the Dolphins having 5 players represented in Origin and the Roosters having 7 to their respective states. Even before the team lists, the predictive modelling had the Dolphins winning by a converted try which the top NRL Bookmakers still feel is a valid number.

The Roosters defensive structures should still hold strong but it is difficult to see them pouring on the points without Sam Walker directing traffic and the finishing and experience of Mark Nawaqanitawase and James Tedesco.

The Dolphins are also missing strike power at the back and out wide but importantly have better depth with Trai Fuller in at fullback and the team retaining their halves pairing.

The likely outcome here is that both teams lock in defensively, which has been the trend for both of them over the last month of footy, and scoring is low.

Take the Dolphins to win with a 1-12 margin and the Game Total to stay Under 50.5 with Jamayne Isaako the best option as Anytime and First Tryscorer.

The Dolphins have allowed just 13.6 pts per game over their last 5 matches with the Roosters allowing 14.4 pts per game to their opponents in the same span.
The Average Game Total this season sits at 48 pts but over the last 3 rounds has dropped to 44 pts.
Jamayne Isaako has scored in 4 of his last 5 games for 6 tries total in that span.
Jamayne Isaako has scored in 3 of his 5 career games as a Dolphin vs the Roosters.

Head to Head

The Dolphins won their first ever game in the NRL against the Roosters back in 2023 but since then have been on the losing end, dropping 4 straight against Sydney.

Last year the Roosters took both games with margins of 10 pts and 52 pts. 4 of the 5 matchups have gone Over the Game Total and the Roosters hold a 2-1 advantage at Suncorp.

Dolphins Form Analysis

The Dolphins have won 5 in a row heading into this clash with the Roosters. Their first game back from the bye last weekend was a 40-14 drubbing of the North QLD Cowboys which saw them score 28+ points in 5 straight and for the 7th time in 12 games this season.

What has been the most important for this team though is their much improved defence. Last season they allowed 24.8 pts per game to their opponents, this year the number is down to 21 per game and just 13.6 pts per game through this 5 game winning streak.

Their +77 differential is the 4th best in the league and they currently sit 5th on the ladder but have had 2 of their 3 byes already.

Sydney Roosters Form Analysis

The Roosters snapped a 2 game skid either side of their Rd 12 bye with a dramatic 26-0 victory over Canberra last weekend in the Nation’s Capital. In Sydney’s losses this season, ball security and discipline have been the problem.

Those problems threatened again with 6 penalties and 3 set restarts conceded but against the Raiders they still completed at 80% which gave them the ascendancy.

Defensively they were also outstanding, holding Canberra from scoring despite 34 tackles Inside 20m and have now held their opponent to 18 pts or less in 5 of their last 6 games.
