North Queensland Cowboys History
The North Queensland Cowboys started in the then ARL in 1995 where they won just the two games in their first season with many low finishes and their first finals finish not coming until 2004.
Based in the 180,000 populus city of Townsville, the Cowboys started building a strong following in the mid 2000's, a period which saw them make their first grand final in 2005 where they were defeated by the Wests Tigers in a 30-16 result.
They've made eight finals series since that 2005 season which included seven playoffs finishes in a row from 2011 to 2017 and the highlight came in 2015 where courtesy of a Johnathan Thurston Golden Point in extra time, they beat the Brisbane Broncos to win their first title.
Johnathan Thurston, Matt Sing, Paul Bowman and Matt Bowen are some of the elite players of the NRL to have represented the North Queensland Cowboys.
