Sydney Roosters History
The Rosters were founded in 1908 in Paddington, Sydney, as Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club, but weren't known as the Roosters until almost 90 years later.
In 1995 the club's name was changed to the Sydney City Roosters, and in 2000 to the Sydney Roosters. Unofficially nicknamed the "Tricolours" due to their red, white and blue playing strip, Eastern Suburbs won its first match, defeating Newtown 32–16 at Wentworth Oval on 20 April 1908.
In 1913, it became the first club to win three consecutive premierships, a feat they will be looking to repeat in 2020.
Most notably, the Roosters are the only team to have played every single season at the elite level of rugby league in Australia.
