Vega One Given 52kg for Group One Stradbroke

Vega One has retained favouritism ahead of next month's Group One Stadbroke Handicap after being accolated just 52kg in the $1.5 million feature. 

Considered one of Queensland's top chances in the sprint feature, Vega Magic remains the $6 joint favourite at Bet365 to take out the Stadbroke Handicap.

After a controversial return when resuming at the Sunshine Coast on April 25 before another fourth placed effort in the BRC Sprint, Vega One is nominated for this Saturday's Group Two Victory Stakes which will feature on a return to Eagle Farm card on May 23.

This four-year-old qualified for the Stradbroke after winning The Gateway qualifying race back in December, with that $250,000 event providing him with a ballot-exempt route to Queensland's biggest race.

Two prior winners of this race in Santa Ana Lane (58.5kg, but is set to be spelled) and Trekking (58kg) top the weights, with the 2019 Stradbroke and recent Goodwood winner carrying 54kg when successful in this feature last year.

Le Romain and Kementari have both been allotted 55.5kg with Kementari another runner in Saturday's Victory Stakes nominations off a fifth placed effort in the BRC Sprint.

There's a string of nominations that have been given the low weight of 49.5kg, which includes Niedorp, Fituese and Subpoenaed, who was luckless on May 9 at Royal Randwick.
