Djokovic hasn't done things the easy way in 2026, but I'm prepared to go against the grain and back the Serbian in for a straight sets victory here. Struff is in good form, but this is just a terrible matchup for him - as illustrated through his 0-8 H2H record against the Serbian. Djokovic is arguably the greatest returner of all time - he neutralises the point immediately and then uses his backhand to gradually grind the big German down. Yes, he's not at his best, but the matchup is still a good one - take Djokovic to advance in straights.

Djokovic has made his ambitions clear as he targets a place at the ATP Finals, with his decision to return to Basel for the first time since 2011 underlining his determination to qualify for Turin.

The 39-year-old currently sits 11th in the ATP Race, with Rafael Jodar and Alex de Minaur both within reach. However, the Serbian will need strong performances in Basel and at the Paris Masters if he's to secure a spot among the Elite Eight at the season-ending championships.

Despite playing a reduced schedule this season, Djokovic has continued to prove he can compete at the highest level. A runner-up finish at the Australian Open, a Wimbledon semi-final appearance and a remarkable 102nd career title in Beijing have kept the veteran firmly in the hunt for another ATP Finals appearance.

Djokovic was again forced into a big battle in his Basel opener, dropping the first set against indoors specialist Ugo Humbert before fighting back to complete a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win - his 33rd straight over Frenchman.

However, the 36-year-old rediscovered his best tennis to make a shock run to the Wimbledon quarter-finals, defeating the likes of Brandon Nakashima, Hubert Hurkacz and Daniil Medvedev.

Again, Struff failed to win consecutive matches across his next six tournaments before surging back to life again in Brussels last week, taking a top 10 scalp over Arthur Fils to make the final before going down in three to Tallon Griekspoor.

Struff has maintained his strong level in Basel, defeating Yannick Hanfmann 6-4 6-3 in his opening round.
