ATP Auckland Overview
The ASB Classic was first held in 1956 and has since transformed into the biggest men's professional sporting event in New Zealand.
David Ferrer is the record four-time champion of the ASB Classic, winning his first title in 2007 before winning three straight between 2011-13. Twice after winning Auckland, Ferrer went on to reach the Australian Open semi-finals, further highlighting how good form in Auckland can translate over to Melbourne Park.
It's place on the calendar means some of the best players in the world consistently compete at the ATP 250 tournament, with the Australian Open kicking off the following week - meaning it's the last chance for players to fine-tune their games ahead of the first major of the season.
The tournament has been played on outdoor hardcourt since 1978 and takes place at the ASB Tennis Centre in Auckland.
A total of 28 players compete in the singles draw, with the top four seeds receiving byes to the second round, while 16 teams feature in the doubles event.
