The 2024 Shanghai Masters will take place between October 2-13, with the best players in the world battling it for a coveted 1000-level title.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz lead the way as the pair go in search of a maiden Shanghai Masters title, while all eyes will be on Novak Djokovic, who is returning to the tournament for the first time since 2019.

Shanghai Masters Outright Winner Tip - Who will win ATP Shanghai in 2024?

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are the two leading favourites, but they don't offer much value, especially considering they just played a gruelling, three-hour final in Beijing on Wednesday.

Asking one of them to repeat that sort of level and go all the way in Shanghai is a lot. Novak Djokovic is also playing just his second tournament since the Olympics, and at the current stage of his career, you've got to question his motivation levels for these sorts of events.

Alexander Zverev is also battling illness and isn't tempting at single-digit odds. Which is why we're siding with Daniil Medvedev.

The Russian is facing his first title-less season since 2017, so he will be determined to produce his best tennis in Shanghai, where he is a former champion. It took Alcaraz playing some superhuman tennis to stop Medvedev in Beijing, so if the Spaniard goes out early, he will fancy his chances.

Nobody else is really standing out form-wise right now, so happy to back Medvedev at $13 with Picklebet.

ATP Shanghai Overview

The Shanghai Masters was first staged in 2009 and immediately made a positive impact, receiving the award for best Masters 1000 tournament by the ATP in its first five years through to 2013.

Nikolay Davydenko won the first Shanghai Masters event in 2009, but from there, the tournament was dominated by three men for the next decade.

Novak Djokovic has won the Shanghai Masters a record four times, followed by Andy Murray with three titles and Roger Federer with two.

Daniil Medvedev broke that stranglehold by winning the 2019 edition of the tournament before it was put on hold for three years due to the pandemic.

The Shanghai Masters returned during the 2023 season, with Hubert Hurkacz emerging as a surprise champion.

The tournament is held on outdoor hardcourts at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in the Minhang District and is the only Masters 1000 tournament not staged in Europe or North America.

From 2024, the tournament was upgraded to a 96-player singles draw, with the top 32 seeds receiving a first round bye. The doubles draw consists of 32 teams.

ATP Shanghai 2024 Player Entry List

The leading players on the ATP World Tour will collide at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, battling out for the chance to secure a big 1000-level title.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner leads the way, with the Italian currently on a 15-match winning streak at the time of writing, while Carlos Alcaraz is also competing and hoping to secure a first Shanghai Masters crown.
Novak Djokovic hasn't played since the US Open and will be hoping to capture a record-extending fifth title in Shanghai after claiming his elusive gold medal at the Olympics earlier this season.

Still without a title this season, Daniil Medvedev - the 2019 Shanghai champion - will be determined to make an impact, along with countryman Andrey Rublev, who is having a difficult season.

Defending champion Hubert Hurkacz has been forced to miss this year's tournament due to injury.

Other players to watch include rising star Arthur Fils, who recently won the Japan Open in the most extraordinary fashion, beating four top 20 players in gruelling encounters.

The Chinese tennis boom is very real and home fans will be hoping the likes of Juncheng Shang, Zhizhen Zhang, Bu Yunchaokete and Wu Yibing can do deep.

Australians fans can follow the progress of Jordan Thompson, Alexei Popyrin, Chris O'Connell, Li Tu, Aleksandar Vukic and Rinky Hijikata.
